So..... Whats the best type for target shooting? Everyone has told me "go light ball" but I am not sure which brands are working the best for everyone, so I want suggestions.

I will be ordering a case tonight most likely, and everyone seems to be going to AIM Surplus lately so that is option 1 for me.

First, AIMSurplus is the place I go. Always. The guys support the site, and thier CS is first rate.

Two; I have used Russian light ball, Polish light ball, Bulgarian light ball, and I just ordered some Yugo 182gr from AIM that I will be trying out. I have found that the Polish does not do well in my PSL accuracy wise, with the Russian performing best. However, for me, I found that the Bulgarian (I think it is anyway, have to check later) is more corrosive than the Russian. I havent shot enough of the Polish to tell. I know the Yugo is corrosive as well, but I'll see to what extent when it comes in. So I mostly stock the Russian stuff. YMMV, by a wide margin.

Eventually, I am going to get some Prvi 54r, save the brass, and get back to the loading bench, and work up some nice handloads.

Has anyone used this ammo? I'd like to hear some reviews on it before I order.

Go here, will tell you the up to the minute prices, and the vendors. Unless you want to spend a small fortune on commercial ammo, Mil Surp is the way to go. The Mil Surp are all basically the same, all Berdan primes, all with corrosive primers. Only difference is maybe bullet weights. No biggie, clean your gun after you shoot.

Somebody make this link hot please, I don't seem to have the skillz.

Yes I seen it, but I was wanting to know how it did down range other than how corrosive it is.

I went with the russian ammo from aim and it should be here by the end of the week.

Sorry, guess I left that out.....

Shooting a PSL or Nagant? My Nagant nor my PSL showed good results with it. 3-4" from hole to hole with the PSL, 5-6" with the Nagant. Compared with the Russian, 1-3" through the PSL.

Unfortunately I do not have pics, but UPS showed up at the house yesterday while I was at work, and left a crate of PSL ammo on my door. Russian 7.62x54r, 880rnds with the can opener inside. My wife automatically asked where all of it was going to be kept

Cleanmoostang,
FWIW my PSL shoots both the Russian & Polish light ball pretty close to 12" at 550 yds. (iron sights) with the edge going to the Polish..

Russian Light Ball, never makes the bolt stick on my cheap as Russian mosin 44.
Every other make/country/type,even Winchester....makes the bolt stick after about 10 rounds or so.
Target shooting? Russian light ball.

Here is some actual data (in several different rifles) on the various 7.62x54 surplus ammo on the market. Notice the standard deviation values...lower = more consistent.

http://62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinAmmo.htm

At 100 yds, I've found that the Russian 7N1 makes the smallest groups out of my PSL. Next is the 60's Czech Silvertip, then the 80's Czech, 80's Bulgarian, and finally the late 70's early 80's Russian. I've only used light ball ammo.
