Privi Soft Point
Has anyone tried any of the Privi Soft Point?

The fact that it is using a .310 bullet is interesting. I think most AK's are .311
Also the fact that it is the same grain count as most normal AK ammo seems odd. I wonder how shallow of a bullet it is using.
Just thinking out loud, but I would like to know if anyone has tried it.
Wow that almost looks like they used a 30-30 bullet. The ballistic coeffiecient of that bullet has to be horrible.
I just visited their website they offer 3 rounds for the 7.62x39 FMJ, PSP, and a SP-RN. I'd like to try that PSP one but will pass on the round nose version.

I had a friend on another board that hunted with the Prvi RNSP he dropped deer like a bad habit with them,he longest shot to make a kil was 80 yds. The .310 dia. bullet they and some others use is perfectly normal for SKS and AK's chambered for X39. When you say .311 in the AK your referring to the groove to groove dia. of the bore, you will find that many SKS and AK's measure .312 or even slightly larger.
The .310 dia. bullets in factory ammo and my reloads shoots the most accurately in my x39 chambered rifle, followed by .311 dia.bullets a close second.

Interesting...I may need to purchase some now.
I bought it for defensive uses - it has to really hit hard and penetrate less with the blunt nose. I'm not thinking of firing at somebody 300 yds away with it. Plus, it's reloadable. I don't reload, but there's a good market for boxer-primed brass 7.62x39. PRVI has some really good ammo coming over here now.
I'm interested as well and just ordered some. If anybody has a range report please post it.
After many attempts to load this type of ammo in my VZ-58 i've come to the conclusion that it's not going to work unless I work on the feedramp. I even think working on the feedramp is a stretch
I guess I could drop it in for a good first shot than follow with whatever feeds well. Is it bad to drop a round in like 1911's?
I dont think it would be bad . Just chamber a round, put it on safe, insert magazine.
However I would test fire a few from a cold bore to see if the point of impact is much different than the ammo in your magazine.
If it will feed it should hit like a Mack truck inside 100 yds!

I've had the same problem with the Prvi soft point feeding in my VEPR II. I quit trying. I suspect the round may be intended for bolt actions like the CZ 527.
I've never tried these but looking at the ogive of the bullet and knowing how my AKs feed rounds into the chamber, with the nose of FMJ just clearing the lower chamber mouth, I'm pretty damn sure these wouldn't feed reliably, if at all, in any of my AKs. Hell, a lot of AKs have trouble with HPs, which are just a slightly truncated tangential ogive, so I certainly wouldn't expect to have good results with the more eliptical ogive used on these.
I guess I better try this ammo in my AKs before I start counting on it
