 Walmart Ammo any good??

I was told that this ammo had issues with the casings splitting. Has anyone heard that or seen anything like it. I think it was a guy at the gun show feeding me bull sh!t to justify his prices on Wolf. I've shot about 250 rounds of it myself and everything worked perfectly. Just curious to see if anyone heard the same thing.

Thanks.

[Edit] he did have good prices on .223 tho. 34.00 per hundred of the american eagle.

You do realize that if Wal-mart is selling the same ammo as the guy at the gun show....

It is the same manufacturer... Wal-mart doesn't actually produce the ammo.

If it is different ammo, then buy a box from Wal-mart, shoot it and see. I would doubt there is any ammo that has a propensity of split cases. If there was, I think there would have been a huge stink over this.

Wal Mart makes ammo?

Do they make anything?

I've shot about 800 rds of this. No issues. CTD has it for $3.59.

It's Ulyanovsk ammo, they make good stuff, they are the company that made the Wolf "Mil Spec" ammo in the past. The Gunshow commando was full of shit.

This what I have heard as well.

That Yin-Yang with the arrows thing on the box is the Ulyanovsk headstamp/logo. I also have some older Wolf Mil-Spec (sold as the Military Classic line) that was made by Ulyanovsk as well.

Newer Wolf Military Classic on the left, older Wolf Military Classic on the right:

Notice the same headstamp/logo (Ulyanovsk) on the round on the right:

Ulyanovsk is also making the Cabela's "Herter's" branded ammo which appears to be identical to the Uly WB:

Yes, I do realize that Wal Mart does not make ammo. I did not know the name of the manufacturer. The gun show guy was selling wolf. I told him that the Ulyans... ammo or whatever it is, is cheaper than he was selling the same ammo for at a gun show. He told me that this ammo was shit and cases split so thats why wolf was more expensive. He also proceeded to tell me that WalMart ammo is basically what they sweep off of the floor which i knew was bull sh!t. Thats why i questioned his earlier statement about the apparent defect in the ammo.

Local WalMart here has it for 4.97/box. If i but less that 2-300 rounds at the time, its cheaper at walmart due to the price of shipping with CTD.

I can't believe I'm going to post this before Zhukov.

Wal-Mart is cheap for a reason. They don't tolerate bullshit in their supply chain, so anyone who would give them "stuff sweeped off the floor," which would have a high fail rate (presumably) and cost them time, money and trouble, would get their account canceled so fast they wouldn't believe. Don't buy into that guy's BS, buy the walmart ammo and shoot away. thats just dumb.

how would it get all over the floor in the first place? LOL

This. It's the same ammo as Wolf with a different box. It's good ammo.

I can't believe a gunshow vendor would spread untruths just to sell his merchandise at a higher price

The Uly ammo shoots fine. +1 on what the other's said.

It's Uly. Same as any other steel cased Ruskie ammo. Wal-Mart just wants about a dollar more per box than anyone else.

I've shot 300 rounds or so of the .223 stuff, no problems yet.

Shoots fine through my AK, but so does everything else. Like another poster said, if buying in bulk the same stuff is sold by CTD. Otherwise Walmart is handy to pick up a few boxes without paying shipping.

Never believe what you hear at a gun show. It's the same stuff as the Herter's and Wolf that others have mentioned. The local Wally World doesn't have the white boixed stuff though. They have black boxed Tula in 9mm, 7.62x39 and one store has.308 FMJ stuff.

That's who makes Wolf Black Box.

Yeah I know but I've never seen the white box Tula ammo at any of the local Wal Marts just the black box TULA marked brand.

I was just pointing that out for the guy that were saying that Uly makes all the wolf ammo.

Gotta love the super Walmart!!! The recent ''honey can you go to the grocery store'' trips are now worthwhile! I keep thinking they are going to run out of the Uly white box but it just keeps being re-stocked! .223 and .45 acp are abundant as well, where a year ago the local wally world's ammo shelves were getting kind of bare

FWIW, the Herters (which someone noted above as potetially the same exact thing) has been on sale at Cabelas lately on and off for $3.99 per box. If you want smaller qantities, and have a local store, that will be tough to beat.

The price of gas for me negates the savings at Cabelas for me, especially since CTD is 5 miles closer than Cabelas.
