Have a good friend that still has 500 rounds + of yellow box Norinco, are there any markings or date codes that tell if it is steel core?
I shot all mine up years ago, went through a bunch. We use to buy this stuff for like 8 cents a round
I've still got some of the .223, horrific muzzle flash and a hot load for sure. The .45 auto was softball....
I don't know if the headstamp is a sure sign or not. I have a bunch of steel core and it has a "311 93" headstamp on it. The magnet test might work, but the only way to be sure is to pull a bullet and cut it open.
All Chinese ammo is steel core, that's why it was banned. The copper washed ammo is the best.
Not so. There is a lot of lead core chinese 7.62x39mm out there. All Steel core 7.62x39mm was banned from import and all Chinese guns and ammunition were banned from import, but these were two seperate events that happened around the same time.
Post a pic of the ammo and headstamp and I can tell you what you likely have...

Yep lots of lead core Chinese ammo.

No, not at all. Just entirely ignore what he said there.
