AK Thermolds Don't Work in all guns.

A friend of mine recently got in a shipment of the Master Molder (Thermold) AK-47 mags. These are the big ones that hold 45+ rounds, and are stamped "Law & Govt. Use Only". I tried it out in my WASR-10, but it won't fit. The opening for the mag well is too narrow for this magazine. The mag also would not fit in a Maadi, a SAR-1, or an SKS-B (that takes standard AK mags). I spoke with my buddy and he is having the same trouble with all of these mags that he has. They will however, fit in my Vulcan Arms AK, and my Century GP-1975. Apparently the mag wells on these guns are wide enough.

i have seen a few ak's with tight magwells. my gp1975 had a simialr issue. 5 min with a dremel and those issues were solved.

The problem isn't the magwell dimensions, the problem is that these mags are slightly wider than most AK mags.

if they are made to spec <which i believe they are...> then yea it's a magwell issue

i have had a few ak's that were that way on various types of military mags from different countries. it's an easy fix and insures every mag will fit.

I trimmed a little off of a few of mine to allow them to fit in my MAK, some of them fit without any mods needed. All the 30 rounders I have fit without mods needed

Seems US made AK mags run big, I got 2 Pro Mags that came with an SLR95 I bought last year, they won't fit in 2 other 7.62 AK's in my collection. (Please note that I would not have bought those, they were thrown in with the deal.)

If the magazine well accepts multiple mil-surp magazines and won't accept a US made magazine, the problem lies in the magazine, not the rifle.

This. I got a WASR this spring that came with 2 Tapco 30rd mags. They fit the WASR fine but wouldn't fit in my Norinco or SAR1. They weren't even close in those rifles. My milsurp steel mags were fairly loose in the WASR receiver so the problem was with the Tapcos mags. The problem is that I'm sure century cut out the magwell to accept the Tapcos mags they were sending with the rifle which in turn made the magwell sloppy with milsurp mags.
