I am moving right along on collecting my parts for my triangle side folder akm build but I am hung up on what finish to use
Usually my rifles get a nice satin gun coat but I am wanting to do something different with this one to give it a slight BFPU finish but not to extreme as I do not want a lot of bare metal just some on the high spots and true high wear areas
So what would be a good finish for this besides blueing? (it's to expensive)
BBQ grill paint.
You can always use that Walmart BC tetra gun (sic) cold blue, sure to give it a rugged look, then cover in paki tape for halal points
I'm working on mine right now. Thinking I'm just going to do a hot blue with shitty prep and then wear the high spots.
That rifle does look great, did you get that paint at a local store or did you purchase online? Does it hold up well to a hot barrel and cleaning solvents?

That's what I would love to do and my original plan was to hot blue over bead blast but I am not set up to do it myself and the $300+ quotes are to rich for my blood

I have been using that VHT caliper paint for a year now. Bought at Auto Zone. Really is tough if baked for an hour.

Yeah, that would be too much to spend if you're just going to rub a lot of it off. The only reason I'm even doing this build is because I found an old Romy kit and receiver in my storage unit. So I'm going to hand cut the rear of the receiver for the folding stock, add some Paki tape and 90210 stickers and call it good.

I don't know how well it holds up to solvents. I bought the paint at auto zone. I did the minimal amount of prep work before i painted. I heated the parts before I painted then rubbed with steel wool.
think ill head to autozone and see if they have any, thanks.
