Refinishing AK furniture (Aluma-Hyde II)???
So after all my replacement parts for my SGL-21 have come in I've noticed that the stock, pistol grip, and MI handguards are all a different shade of Flat Dark Earth. I'd like them all to be the same shade, preferably that of the Magpul CTR stock, so I was thinking of refinishing them (and maybe 'gun-kote'-ing the receiver and barrel as well). As I've never attempted to do this I figured I'd come seeking advice...
I've been told that Brownell's Aluma-Hyde II is a pretty good product for refinishing the furniture. Would this be an accurate consensus here? Are there any special precautions I need to take prior to refinishing the grip and stock? What about the MI Rail (and the receiver/barrel should I decide to do that as well)? I've heard different opinions on which is a closer match to FDE, dark earth or coyote... From those that have used either, what is your opinion on it matching (Magpul) FDE?
Thanks!!
