Here is the dilema, I have a mint unfired preban kassnar underfolder I might sell/trade to get a Knights Sr15. Am I crazy to part with the SA85m? I really want a Knights bad, but I know they can be had fairly easily. The AK not so much. I dont want to kick myself in the ass later. Any input from you fellow AK nuts would be appriciated before I possibly make a mistake. Thanks Dan

Don't do it! You can always get a Knights rifle.

The only problem I see here is that it hasn't been shot yet!

I don't care for underfolders so I have no particular love for Kassnar SA 85M, but it seems illogical to sell a hard-to-find/rare item like that for SR15. Keep the rarer gun.

Yeah, I'd never sell a rare rifle to buy one that is commonly available.

I love that KAC, but NO. Keep it. Save up if necessary and buy what you want next when you can afford it.

Thanks guys, I believe we have a unanimous decision! I have retracted my ad in the EE and have decided to keep the Kassnar. I will save up and buy a KAC outright. I really appriciate the input, prob saved me from serious regret! Thanks Dan

Just remember two things:
1) You can never have too many guns.
2)

I can't remember the other one!

#2 is "Buy both"

I'm going to ruffle feathers here, but I can't have a gun that doesn't get shot.

With that said two points:
1.) If you have the cash to buy the KAC, do it, then shoot the hell out of it. Keep the SA85M as a collector piece.
2.) If its between having a rifle you don't shoot and one you could be shooting, I'd go the route that would get me to the range more often. (all depends on your current rifle situation)

Just curious, what were you asking for the pre-ban FEG? I would expect at least $1500. And that is just going to keep going up.
But, there is another way to look at it, which is something I did not long ago; I sold a very rare Remington 1861 revolver so I could get the parts I wanted to assemble an AR. This revolver was not in working condition and was missing most of it's original parts. Plus, it didn't have any finish left. I had tried to find parts for it for years and finally gave up on it. Even if I had been able to put together a working gun with it, it wasn't the kind of thing that you actually would use for anything. So, I got $900 for it and basically traded it for an AR that I definitely use and enjoy. Now you have a highly-desirable AK that can't be fired without suffering a loss of value, so it will never be of any use. You could sell it and get a premium AR that you definitely would use and enjoy - I don't see any 'no-no' in that, but if you do sell it, get top dollar. Do your homework and don't let anybody talk you down. There are plenty of potential buyers for it.

That was my initial reason to sell the AK because it was never shot and will never be shot. I love the gun, but i can never really enjoy it if that makes sense. I had it priced at $1600 and would take no less, I was getting alot of lowball offers and frankly it was pissing me off! If I did sell I could buy theKAC which would def get shot and be a perfect platform or my KAC QD suppressor. But then again I would have to deal with the annoying nickle and dimers. Now im kinda on the fence again. Damn

The KAC's aren't going anywhere, they are still being made and are easily attainable. Just be patient and save your money up and you will have no regrets. I guarantee that if you sell your AK and purchase the KAC it will feel great until that new gun smell wears off and you realize that you could have bought the KAC any day of the week, and there will definitely be remorse. Just remember AK's are going up in value and AR's are going down in value.

I have to agree with getting rid of it. Life is short. If you want an item that you can get by selling another, then what's the point of having said item. Especially if you have no interest in it, will never use or shoot it, and are half of the mind to get rid of it anyway.

There are still many Hungarian pre-ban underfolders out there should you ever want to get another someday for whatever reason. Let it go and get the item you're really wanting.

I agree. Years ago I found myself in a similar situation with a number of rifles that I never shot because of their condition. I realized I didn't have the financial resources to be a "collector", so I sold them all and bought only rifles that were "shooters". I got good money for all of them and never looked back. Get the best buck you can for your FEG and put it into something you'll enjoy more.

Anytime I've sold a "nice" AK, I've always regretted it later. If you aren't in a hurry, maybe think about it for a week or two and then make your decision.

Then again, Raymond1 makes a good point. If the choice is between having a gun that looks pretty in your safe, and having a gun you'll enjoy using, it might make sense to get the KAC. If you change your mind later, you can always get another Hungarian, albeit at an inflated price.

As for the annoying lowball offers, and if you decide to sell, just put some bold text in your add that says "Price is firm. Offers below the asking price will be ignored." That'll take care of 90% of the lowball offers you'd otherwise get. The others you can just delete.

Didn't realize you'd never shoot the AK. In that case I'd probably sell it.

I've had two SVDs and eventually sold both of them because I never fired them because quality ammo for them was just too expensive. No point in owning a rifle that just looks pretty in the same. Everything should be a shooter (unless your filthy rich and can afford two of everything..haha)

In the same boat here, I would sell the AK if you aren't going to shoot it. Use the money to buy something you will put to good use. Unless it won't be hard/take long to save, then just get both.

I have quite of few AK's, all of them I shoot except this one. That is why this decision is difficult, but the more I think about it the more I want the KAC. I know I cannot afford to buy one so using the AK to fund it is my only choice. Worse case scenerio is if I regret it I'll just take put my Poly spiker and shoot the hell out of it lol

If you have other shooters and this one is not a main part of your collection, I'd let it go. Guns are for shootin'.

Do you consider yourself?
1 – A shooter
2 – A collector
3 – Some of both?

If you’re #1, I would sell the rifle since you will not shoot it and buy something you will shoot and enjoy.

If you’re #2, keep it for sure. Hide it away and rub it with a diaper when you feel the need.

If you’re #3, then it’s a toss-up. If you get more enjoyment out of shooting something, then I would sell. If you get more enjoyment out of looking at something, then I would keep it.

I have rifles I shoot and I have rifles I collect. So unless there was something else I really wanted I would not sell. That being said, I’ve sold many rifles in the past and do not regret selling any of them. There are always more out there. Finding them is ˝ the fun.

If you do decide to sell it, wait until the height of election fever to do it.

Yep. Never understood buying cars or guns and not using them.

Well I decided to sell it. Its listed in the EE. Thanks for all the useful input, I really want the KAC and the SA85m is useless to me. I would rather sell it to someone who is going to enjoy it rather then have it collect dust in my safe. I know the KAC will be used ALOT so its win win as long as someone buys it. Thanks again Dan

I've owned a bunch of guns but I always have shot them. I've regretted selling some such as milled AKs but I always made more on all guns I've sold then I've had in them for the most part. I'd sell a gun instead of keeping it with no intention of ever shooting it. Life is short and there is no sense not enjoying what you have during life if it is just going to end up unappreciated by whoever ends up with it when you are dead and gone.

Where are you getting the KAC from and what are you paying for it?

I may buy one from the Gun Gallery through the EE or maybe if one pops up on the EE from a privare seller. I cant even think of buying the KAC until I actually sell the AK.
