Compatriots,
I purchased a new ak47 type rifle last month and decided to finally shoot it this week.
gun performs good, no jams, reasonably accurate.
I have a question about the muzzle flash, it resembles a sparkler going off.
Not the fire flash that I am used to from an ar15.
Flash suppressor does nothing to tame this type of flash.
Does this sound correct? could be the ammo?
just looking for some feedback.
thanks

The AK has a slant type muzzle brake, it's not a flash hider. It reduces muzzle rise. If you unscrew it, you'll see the difference.
the bi-metal jacket on most commercial 762x39 ammo can cause some sparks as it exits the muzzle of your AKM. a longer FH can reduce this but a change of ammo to something w/ a copper jacket will make the most difference.
Try some Yugoslavian surplus. The powder (like most mil-surp powder) is made with a flash suppressant which the powder in commercial cartridges lacks.

Ahh, sorry, forgot to mention that I did replace the slant brake with a bird cage type flash hider.

Ya,
I was thinking about trying some copper jacketed ammo as a test. just it is not very cheap ammo around here.
thanks
