SVD cheek pad mounted on PSL (the results)

Hi all!

I wasn't too keen on any of the civilian cheek pads available for the PSL, but it annoyed me that the really kewl military issue cheek pad of the SVD wasn't compatable with the PSL. SO, I decided to spent a few bucks to experiment and see whether I could adapt the really kewl SVD cheek pad to the really kewl PSL. These photos show the result.

It turns out the curvature of the laminated wood base of the SVD pad is almost a perfect match for the curvature of the PSL cheek comb. All I really needed to do was pop off the steel clamp from the cheek pad and replace it with leather straps at either end (with black roller buckles to give it that no nonsense military look). There are screws on either end of the base at just a perfect location to mount the straps so it was simply trial and error to see where the besk location to have the buckle.

The pad actually makes for a VERY good cheek weld, and until I mounted this thing I never knew just how low the comb on the PSL stock really was. The good thing is that there were zero modifications to the PSL itself required, so if ithis scheme doesn't work out in practice at the range I can remove it and start from scratch. The end result looks like a cross between an SVD and a PSG 1.

What are your thoughts? Does it look good or should I quietly remove it before someone laughes at me?

If YOU like the way it looks, and if it works well for YOU, why would you give a dam* if some ignorant as*hole laughs?

+1, the idea looks pretty cool, I just ended up buying a pad and putting it on mine

I like it! Where do you get these pads? I want to do this to my PSL.

Thanks. I got mine from Gunbroker but they sell these on Ebay in myriad condition as well. There are two types- one with a laminated wood base and a later style with a plastic base. I used the one with the laminated wood base to match the laminated PSL stock.

What about the leather cheeck pad used on the M1D? Do you think that would work as well?

I like what you did there

I had an extra stock laying around and because of the way my face is built this is what I had to do to get proper cheek weld....

Hey buckoff––Is that an IP21? If yes, how do you like it?

Yea!
Mine is the 3x9 and I think there is also a 4x12.

Pretty cool ranging setup in these and the only issue is the left offset.
My cheekpiece moves my face over and up perfectly!
