Scope mount for a PSL different than an AK?

Just got my PSL receiver from CenterfireSystems. My FFL had an AK with a scope so I asked if I could try his scope on my receiver; it wouldn't fit?! I took a couple quick measurements and saw that while the AK's mount width (top to bottom) is around .548" the PSL's width is around .628". Is this common or do I have a bad receiver / mount?

PSL's have an "SKS" mount.
Not "AK"

The PSL mount is different from the AK and so they use different scope mounts.

Some PSL rifles have dovetail rails that are too wide but are usually found on rifles assembled by TN Guns.

You will need to buy a scope that has a mount for the SVD dovetail rail for it to work on a PSL. There are several places that sell these. Go to google.com and type in "posp scope".

The difference between the AK and SVD/SKS mounts is the manner in which the mount prevents recoil movement of the mounted optic. The AK style mount slides onto the rail and forward motion is stopped at the rear of the mount. On the SVD/SKS mount, forward motion is stopped at the front of the mount. Generally, both mounts "fit" and the locking lever will function but if the wrong mount is used for the particular rail, recoil will cause the scope to move forward. If the wrong mount to rail combination is used, i.e., an AK mount is attached to the PSL's SVD/SKS rail, no amount of tension on the locking lever will prevent scope movement. There are some mounts described as "universal" which reportedly will work on either rail.

One of the best kept secrets for a PSL mount is a Zrak M92 mount typically seen on Yugo M76s.

Low over the receiver, centered over the bore, and you can still use the irons because it's a "see through" mount. The M92 will accept any scope with a 1" tube as long as the scope's objective clears the rear sight.

Not my rifle, I never took pics when I had the M92 mount on my PSL.
