Yugo sks issue
hey all, a buddy of mine is having some funky issues with his yugo. First off, its the grenade launcher type, forgive my sks newbness but I would rather leave it at that if I can instead of misstating the type. The issue he is having is that when he fires a round when there are rounds in the mag the chambered round will fire and then the gun will lock up. He has to pull the rifle apart to clear the spent cartridge from the chamber. On the other hand if he fires the rifle with no rounds in the mag, it will eject fine.
Any thoughts?
Any modifications been done to the magazine, etc.?
What does it do if manually cycled through all the rounds in the magazine?
Does the rifle have the standard 10 shot fixed magazine, or an after market, larger capacity one?

He replaced the top cover, bolt and carrier. And the rounds cycle fine manually
why did he replace the bolt and carrier? i assume the top cover was switched out so he could put a scope on it, it won't hold zero.
he should return it to it's factory configuration and see if the problem persists.

Is the gas piston selection on grenade launcher mode? (ie blank fire) make sure the gas piston botton is to the right and not horizontal with the receiver.
If it is not in the semi auto mode, it will have to be cycled manually.
PS..
That is not my rifle, just used it to facilitate explanation.

He put the new parts in because, no joke, some crazy hippy anti-war chick took the bolt, carrier and cover so he couldnt use the rifle....yeah

.
Also he has the rifle in the correct gas position. Its not that its not cycling, it that its seizing altogether and locking up. But only when there are rounds in the magazine.
When he replaced the bolt did he check headspace?
It sounds like maybe the rounds in the mag are pushing up on the bolt so that when it fires it binds just right on the locking block of the receiver. He should be able to see marks on the bolt and or receiver locking block where they are catching each other and be able to polish it up or file a slight taper or such.
How does the gas regulator/piston look?
Mine was pretty corroded and I had the exact same problem...I bought a new stainless steel one and this fixxed it.
sounds like a headspace issue
