Yugo night sight's
Finally bought some Trituim insert's for my Yugo AK's......Man what a difference! The old one's were really weak, The new one's look like Christmas light's glowing! Kinda a pain in the ass Installing em as the new one's didnt just drop in like I was hoping. I took a pin vise and opened up the holes a bit and it worked great all but the very last one, I broke it....Damnt! Oh well, more money to the Netherland's for 1 more vial.
Details man, details!
Where, how?
I got mine
here. Merkava is a good guy to deal with. The 1.47mm x 5.5mm vials fit perfectly.
Got mine from Bart on candlepower forums, Actually I couldnt find the 1.47mmx5.5 so I got the 1.55mm5.5 for 7.50 apiece and 3 buck's shipping. Took a little bit of doing but they work great! Some dropped right in and a couple hole's had to be reamed out a tiny bit.
Bart is good to go as well. I have a Yugo with the painted night sights (not the vials) and instead of using paint, I used some of the tritium "dots" that Bart is/was selling. He shipped quick with no drama as well.
How does one go about removing the old tubes and installing the new ones?

http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=222461 His prices appear to have gone up since I ordered a while back.
I used industrial strength two part epoxy to hold them in place. They're still there a year and a half later.

I ended up using a drill bit (sized to the vial hole) chucked in a tap handle to remove mine, using hand pressure only. No way I was getting mine out in one piece. I used a dab of clear RTV over the hole to retain the vials once the new ones were in place.
+1 on the clear RTV, Seem's to be the way to go!
So you got the 2.0 x 1.75 SS dots? What color did you get?

Correct, got them in green.
sucks that he's sold out of the dot's now... wonder how long it'll be till they're in
Hey could someone school me on the night sights. I can see where you could glue the dot on the front flip up sight, what about the rear sights?
I have a Yugo M70B1 & M72. I read where you were replacing the tube ones by reaming out the old ones. Are you talking about the original ones or after market sights. Please explain with pics if you can. I know I dont need them, but if you guys have them, damn it I want them also.

Sorry about asking but I just don't get it. Thanks.
Original (factory) Yugo night sights:
Front (tritium vials on the left, painted on the right)
Rear (tritium vials on the left, painted on the right)
O.K. I guess I have the ones on the right. How do I get the ones on the left. Did Yugo make two different sights? I have seen the old style that clip on, but it looks like you have to paint them also. I don't want to buy the new Trijicon style too much for me right now. Also I read you used dots in some areas instead of vials to glue on, where did you use those, mabey in the front where there is a place for the paint. Again I have a M70B1 with both sights like the ones on the right, my M72 has the same front sight as on the right but nothing like either rear sights you show here. Please help this old bastard out & show me how & where to get the ones like on the left for both my Yugo's if it is possible. And I'm in no hurry.
Liquid thanks so much for your time a trouble, when It comes to Yugo's i think you are one if the most knowledgeable guys out there.
Biznus - Those dots I previously linked to are incredibly small (you'll need tweezers to handle them), yet surprisingly bright. They will work on the front and rear of the painted sights (ones on the right in each pic). I cleaned the sights thoroughly with acetone and used industrial strength two-part epoxy to hold them in place. I am not worried about them falling off.
Your best bet to locate Yugo tritium sights (front and/or rear) is through a private seller, be it Gunbroker or the EE (I see them on both occasionally). Maybe someone else knows a source, but I am unaware of any dealers/vendors currently selling them. A want-to-buy ad in the AK WTB section (
here) of the EE is a good idea as well.
Sent you an IM as well.
I could have sworn a few weeks ago, the Brownells site had the Yugo set for like $99.99, I asked for help on this very forum and was graciously directed to those..
I saved the money, went here to re-verify the link, and now they're like 60% more? Lmfao booo.
first, a few dental picks help a lot. break out the glass, clean out the glue much as possible. Next, easiest I've found is oxy/acetelene torch set of cleaning tips. Cleaning tip drills MIGHT be needed, if the vials are a little too big for the hole. I used a visegrip plier and patience to ream mine, just the front post bottom of hole, and drill wanted to wander a little, might have been a little glass.
I used dabs of silicone rubber slathered in/ on, then carefully pushed down vial with a q-tip. Clean up after hardening.

Got any pictures of your retro-fitted "dots"?

Sorry, no pics of the dots. That particular rifle is at my cabin so I can't take any and post them up unfortunately.
Anyone know where I can get tritium dots for my painted style Yugo night sites?
bump

So - "B@rt" has the correct sized dots that glue into the "dot depressions" of the Yugo?
Thanks!
