Yugo Flash Suppressor
I recently picked up a Yugo underfolder with a muzzle nut on the threaded barrel. I decided to replace the muzzle nut with a slanted flash suppressor. However, when installed, the flash suppressor doesn't thread all the way on. There is small gap between the end of the suppressor and where it is supposed to seat when all the way on. Do I need to purchase a Yugo flash suppressor, is there is such a thing? Or, do I have a flash suppressor that hasn't been threaded properly? Please let me know.
Measure the depth of the threads on the FS, and then measure the length of the threads on the barrel. Compare the 2 measurements. This should tell you if the threads on the FS are deep enough.
If there is sufficient thread depth in the FS, it may be possible that the threads on the barrel or FS, are burred or damaged. This could be preventing it from screwing on far enough.
If the gap is small I bought a pack of high temp o rings I used for my fake can on my yugo. Even though I can screw it all the way down the notch for the pin was in a bad spot but one o ring filled the gap and stopped the movement. I havent shot it yet but if you want some let me know and I can mail them to you
Is the device US made?
Are the threads clean and undamaged?
Yes and Yes.
All of the M70's I have seen, the comp was loose.
Screw it down till it won't go any farther, then back off until the detent pin goes in the slot in the comp.
They're all loose. I haven't seen a slant flash hider on any type of AK that wasn't at least somewhat loose. It disturbed me at first, too, but it's like an AR or something.
I've encountered US made devices that were not threaded exactly correctly and were somewhat difficult to put on.
How much of a gap exists when the device stops turning?
I probably couldn't describe the distance in the gap correctly, so I took some photos, although they aren't very clear. Please let me know if this gives you an indication of what the problem may be, or if there even is a problem. Again, the hex nut goes completely flush against the barrel with no gap.
That gap is too large. I can't get a .030" feeler gauge between the base of the compensator and the face of the fsb on the loosest device I have.
First, the photo makes the threads on the barrel appear flattened. Is that correct?
Second, with the compensator screwed on as far as possible, look to see if the end of the barrel is contacting the inside of the compensator where the inside diameter gets smaller. There should be a gap.
No the threads aren't flattened.
I do not see a gap.

The compensator is apparently bottoming out on the muzzle.
The distance from the rear face of the compensator to the point where the inside diameter gets smaller is just over 5/8ths ".
The length of the threads in the compensator is approximately 1/2".
My guess is that if you measure your compensator one or both of those distances will be shorter.
If that guess is right, the compensator was not made correctly.
