Thinking about a Raven holster...
I am thinking of getting a Raven holster for my G19. I am just curious if anyone one here has used them. I would be using it for EDC and also possibly for IDPA. For IDPA, I currently use a Galco Avenger and a Galco double mag holder. Setup seems to work fine. I also use the Avenger for when out hiking or roaming through less populated areas. Since it prints on me quite a bit, I don't where it for EDC around town. For that I use a Crossbreed Supertuck. The Supertuck is great, but after a few hours it just become a little uncomfortable. My belt has to be tight to hold it up and it begins to bite into my belly. Thats why I want an OWB EDC holster. I was wondering if anyone uses a Raven as such and how does it work in that roll? I will be honest, I am overweight and I do have a "muffin top." Would a Raven be a better choice for me?

What kind of belt are you using?
The Raven Phantom, and its many clones, are terrific for concealed OWB carry. They are very close to the body and conform to your shape so there is less printing with these than with some OWB holsters. I'm also curious what kind of belt you are using currently, too.

Wilderness 1.75".
ETA: is it possible I am just over tightening my belt?
check out http://garrettindustries.mybigcommerce.com/ ...leather and kydex, best of both worlds
If you wear it OWB it is outstanding. For IWB I prefer Comp-Tac. Either way the Raven is a great holster!
Which is better for EDC, coyote or black?
You might also check out jmc holsters. I want to him when raven would not make one for my sig 226 combat
I just ordered one for my G17, along with the pancake wings since they draw the holster in closer and give it even more adjustability. As far as belts go, if you have no waist you'll have to cinch your belt up real tight to keep them in place. I wear beltman leather belt and have to keep it pretty tight when carrying IWB.

Curious. Did you go with the 10 degree cant or the 0 degree. I was looking at raven holsters too, but I have not own Carried. I've only IWB with a crossbreed holster, so I wasn't sure which would be better.

I went with the standard 10 degree cant. The are so many different ways to adjust it using the different mounts anyway.
Raven's are great. I just don't want to wait six months to get the holster after I order it.

Their "Quick Ship" holsters / accessories ship within 45 days of ordering. The custom holsters DO take a long time though.

6 months is hard to stomach for any holster. I guess there shouldn't be a difference, but to me, I feel more willing to wait longer for a good leather holster than for a kydex one. Maybe the kydex holster makers would disagree with that statement. It does seem like Ravens that aren't available through "quick ship" are popping up on the EE more frequently. If you (or whoever) is looking for something specific, they might get lucky.

The other night I ordered a holster for my Sig 220R compact with TRL1 and a single mag pouch. I hope to see it in a couple weeks.
Do Raven's hold their shape well when unholstered? Are they in the least bit flimsy? The reason I ask is because I think I want one for a more comfortable EDC and for some training classes, but training classes require lots of holstering and unholstering, and my MTAC is a bit of a pain to reholster in to.
So, is the raven easy to holster in to?

Well, my opinion of that holster is not so great, at least for CC. The holster itself was a quality piece, and it held the gun very well, but it did not sit close to the body at all wearing it OWB. The top/but of the gun was almost leaning away from the body instead of towards it. From what I've seen of Ravens the hold it much closer, but I cannot confirm until I get my Raven in about a week or two. If you have IWB accessories its not so bad, a whole lot better that OWB. Just add some moleskin to the back and your set.

After watching Magpul Dynamic Handgun earlier this week I'd say hell yea. Thats what they ran and I couldnt count how many times they drew and holsterd with one hand.

Raven has the market cornered there, I've pretty much played with ever kydex holster and none except for raven have the nice smooth slide and "pop" of a raven holster. The rest grind when putting the gun into the holster. My EDC is a M&P9 with an X300 attached in a Raven Phantom LC and I've holstered un holstered thousands of times with it and have had zero issues. They hold their shape, their seams between the kydex are much cleaner than other manufacturers and they are not flimsy at all but they do "give" a little if you crank your belt down in an effort to conform better.

On this note I'll also say that I took a Hangun III class hosted by Michigan Defensive Firearms Institute with owner Steve Fisher (of Magpul Dynamics) as the instructor. It was 80% one handed manipulations and transitions. I used my M&P with X300 and my Raven, never had a single issue holstering or un holstering.

Keep your eyes peeled. Check other forums as well, but don't buy from eBay - they are typically fake. I can usually find the Raven holster that I'm looking for within a couple of weeks by monitoring all of the common forums.
So those who do use a Raven for EDC (or really any holster), which is a better color, Coyote or Black?

For OWB, I'd have to say black. For IWB it doesn't matter, I'd probably get coyote. I carry IWB with a black holster.
i have 2 (G19 and HK USP45C). They are very high quality. The guns fit perfectly, snap in and out. At first I thought 6 months for a kydex is crazy but after I got it I see why there is so much demand for them.
Pitbull Tactical is a good alternative to the Raven - 2 week turnaround time

Not even close, in my opinion; to me that is comparing a Kia to a Ferrari. I love how smooth my gun slides into the Raven and then snaps into place. My buddy had a Pitbull that we worked over pretty well and the gun ground a large amount of kydex out of the interior or the holster as well as took the finish off of some high points on his gun and it never had the smooth draw and holster of the Raven. I let him use my Raven and he was very impressed over the Pitbull, he purchased a Raven and sold his Pitbull. I have a feeling that I know why Raven's holsters are so smooth being that I'm an engineer and CAD designer but I'm not going to attempt to reveal that process to the masses; it will suffice to say if you look at Raven side by side with another similar manufacturer, you will see large differences in the shape of the gun imprinted on the holster - specifically on light compatible holsters.

Black, not for any reason other than all my kydex is black.
I just got my Raven gear for my Glock 34. It took exactly 4 months. A long wait? Yup. But worth every minute of it. Raven makes very nice gear.

I have a raven even more awesome than the holster is how well they back up there products. I broke my ACR and contacted them they said shoot some pictures and email them to us. I did and a few hours later they emailed me back and said got the picks new one will be out to you in a day or two, and it was.
I don't mind waiting patiently for a company that Stands behind there product like that.

Glad to hear it worked out for you, but I had just the opposite experience. My mag/light pouch screw backed out and when I asked about a replacement, the said it would be $12 for a pack

Long delivery times and poor customer service after the sale is not a good combo.

That's not necessarily broken gear IMHO. I check my holster every couple of weeks to ensure everything is nice and tight, general maintenance if you ask me.

I cary an NTAC (just like a Raven) OWB. I use Coyote because it stands out less than black... I'm usually in kaki or brown pants.

I'm usually in jeans, so black tends to stick out less but it's rare that I carry OWB.

Agreed on the general maintenance and I've since loctited all my Raven screws, which is what I would have expected from RCS.
LaRue just replaced a customer's made in China fake SPR mount with a new $200 genuine mount.
That's customer service.
Sorry for the derail...back on topic.

Where did you hear this? I am just genuinely curious because a buddy bought an ACOG with what turned out to be a fake mount attached, he shipped to LaRue for confirmation and they sent a confirmation email stating that it was fake and shipped it back.

There's a thread in his forum where he did this, although he clearly stated it was a one time deal so I wouldn't expect the same. Actually the member was sent pictures of a real mount, they did the deal and he ended up receiving a fake one. On another forum though, not here.

I would like to give a little perspective on your situation, since it is one that my company encounters multiple times a day, every single day.
When it comes to screws (and other metal hardware), we use extremely high quality components. They aren't cheap, even in the quantities in which we purchase them. It's a cost we're happy to incur, however, because it means we can be confident that our customers won't have to worry about stripping out the threads on their screws and barrel nuts.
We do not apply thread-locker to our screws at the factory because a very large percentage of our customers purchase our gear along with multiple sets of belt accessories (like pancake wings, IWB soft loops, etc), intending to change the configuration of the holster on a frequent basis. After all, that's one of the biggest advantages of our design: The ability to configure it for multiple styles of carry with just a screwdriver.
We have the best warranty in the business: If you wear out or break any of our products, we will repair or replace it at no charge to you, FOREVER. Even if you weren't the original owner, and even if the damage was your fault –– we stand behind our products 100%. That's not just talk; we have a long, proven track record of going above and beyond when it comes to customer service.
All we expect from our customers is for them to inspect their gear frequently, since it is life-saving equipment. Screws on any item subjected to flexing or vibration are likely to back out gradually over time, and our holsters are subjected to considerable flexing while being worn. That is why we instruct our customers to use thread-locker on components they do not intend to change frequently, and re-tighten screws that are not thread-locked on a regular basis to prevent loss. I don't think that's too much to ask, since that's the same process I use on my gear (and I'm only 100 feet from the bins where all the screws are kept and could easily replace it if I lost one).
The reality is, people get complacent or forgetful and screws get lost. I could have sent you a set of replacement hardware at no charge, and it would have probably cost me about $8, if you total up labor, materials, and especially postage (we have to send things Priority Mail - even screws - in order to ensure quick delivery and so we are able to verify delivery to the customer). That's admittedly a small price to pay to make a customer happy, but the problem arises when you look at how many people lose hardware every single day. In an average day we get around a dozen requests for replacement hardware, so I'm sure you can see how it adds up really quickly. We're talking several thousand dollars every single month just to give away screws. Costs like that would ultimately end up driving up the price of our products, which means everyone would get punished to compensate for other peoples' unwillingness to properly maintain their equipment.
If you ever managed to strip, break, round off, melt, or in some other way render unusable any of our screws, barrel nuts, or washers, you could absolutely send them in and I would replace them free of charge (including shipping)...just like all of our other products. I think that's a pretty kick-ass warranty, and I don't know of any other holster company that does that. That's why I think it's pretty fair to ask in return that the customer actually take responsibility for hanging onto his stuff.
That said, if there's something I can do to help remove the bad taste in your mouth regarding our customer service, I'd like to try to find some sort of mutually agreeable solution. If there's some aspect of your situation I have overlooked, I definitely want to know about it. I have tried to explain the reasoning behind our policy, and I hope you understand where I'm coming from. I do appreciate your business, and would like to keep you in the ranks of "happy customers."

.....................well put
I have tried many kydex makers and NONE are even close to Raven. Their quality, attention to detail, service and lifetime warranty are a no brainer IMHO.
I have four of them plus mag pouches and Pmag pouches and run them hard everyday and in classes.
Great products and great owners and staff at RCS.
They work extremely well on a Ares Gear Ranger belt. They are also perfect on my Brokos for classes.
For my Hk P30
Class setup.
For my Multitasker2

For those of you that already have one, any preference on the OWB loops vs the pancake wings?

For me the OWB Loops are already so close, that I don't feel the need for anything closer; So I've never even had the urge to try the pancake wings.

I don't mind waiting patiently for a company that Stands behind there product like that.
Glad to hear it worked out for you, but I had just the opposite experience. My mag/light pouch screw backed out and when I asked about a replacement, the said it would be $12 for a pack
That's not necessarily broken gear IMHO. I check my holster every couple of weeks to ensure everything is nice and tight, general maintenance if you ask me.
Agreed on the general maintenance and I've since loctited all my Raven screws, which is what I would have expected from RCS.
LaRue just replaced a customer's made in China fake SPR mount with a new $200 genuine mount.
That's customer service.
Sorry for the derail...back on topic.

I would like to give a little perspective on your situation, since it is one that my company encounters multiple times a day, every single day...

Good to hear
I ordered a Phantom for my XD last week. Can't wait for it to arrive

Michael,
Thank you for your response. Please check your IMs for my response, in order not to further derail this thread.
Michael_Goerlich,
I appreciate the time that you have taken to find my thread on this site about your product. As you have read, I do not own one of your holsters. I am asking for reviews from actual users and so far, I must say, the results are very positive in favor of your products. With that being said, I am looking to purchase a new OWB holster for everyday carry and IDPA use. Raven has come up time and time again as one to consider. Needless to say, with the positive reviews I am considering heavily one of your holsters. However, there are those out there that say it's just a kydex holster. No different than anyone else. They claim the only reason you are so popular is because of the Magpul videos. I am not of that view, but many out there do share it. I need to ask you, what makes your holster different than other Brand X kydex holsters? Again, thanks for your time.

I'll let you know in a couple weeks when I get mine. I ordered the pancake wings with the holster.
