Just ordered a 29SF to be used as my woods gun here in Colorado. I plan on using full power loads for carry. I am thinking I should get an extended barrel and a holster right off the bat. What would you recommend for a barrel and an open carry holster, especially considering I will have a bare barrel sticking out of the slide? Are there any online stores that are decent and cater to Glocks?

Thanks

Tons of sites. Look at the tacked threads and you will find a ton of info on it.

Enjoy your new pistol!

for holster look at the galco Fletch. Great holster but also make sure you get a good belt that has an insert. Order the belt a few inches bigger than normal as the holster will take an inch or two extra. Extended barrel. Get a match grade from wolf. But I personally dont see the advantage of an extended barrel. The one that comes with the glock is perfect. A stock glock is a great shooter out of the box

To many times we see toys on the weapon but never fired once

Can't think of ONE cogent reason for an extended barrel. I always install aftermarket connectors, night sights and Agrip on my Glocks. I also polish all mating surfaces in the firing mechanism.

Sights, holster, and lots and lot of trigger time.

Seriously, Glocks run very well out of the box and tend to get worse and worse as people "improve" them. I rarely see malfunctioning stock models, but ask a Glock certified armorer how many modded guns they fix on a regular basis.

What is the point of an extended barrel, unless it is threaded?

Just say no.

I installed extended slide stops and slide locks on all of mine, just recently. These things really aren't needed, but they happened to be on my wife's gun. I shot it a few weeks back, and these things are nice to have.

The large-sized Glock "sport" holster, a couple Glock magazine pouches, a set of night sights, a pile of magazines, and a pile of ammo are all you need.

I want an aftermarket barrel to shoot hardcast, unless hardcast is ok for factory barrels? I figure if I am getting a barrel, I may as well get an extended one to squeeze some more fps out of the 10mm. I am not planning on carrying around town, just in lion/black bear country.

Just read an article that stated hardcast = fine. As long as they're not lead.

"True hard cast bullets (as opposed to lead swaged bullets) that are properly lubed will not lead foul polygonal barrels any more than any other type of rifled barrel. Ever since Glock Corporation warned to not use lead bullets in their pistols with polygonal barrels, a myth that hard cast bullets will lead foul polygonal barrels has become wide spread in some parts of the firearms world. However, the myth is untrue. Hard cast bullets are not "lead" bullets."

(1) Hard cast is lead and (2), as I said, I can't think of a COGENT reason for buying an extended barrel for the G29; however, even if it's just because the OP thinks it's kewl, it's certainly his money and his G29! Have at it! I really don't think 50fps more will make any difference.

Get some night sights (I'm a fan of Trijicon), A decent holster, and shoot it as much as you can.

Maybe an extended slide release. That's all I really do to my Glocks. It's all they need, IMO.

Congrats on the new 29!
