Holster Recommendation for Sig 226R Elite
Looking for a 2-point retention duty-style holster for a 226 Elite (rail, German-made frame, wood grips).
Looking for:
* Thumb release (as opposed to SERPA style)
* Compatibility with a drop/offset (either included or as a separate kit)
Tried a 5.11 Thumbdrive, but something about the Elite model won't let it fully enter the holster. Fit seems good, but the retention latch won't engage. Otherwise, the Thumbdrive was what I was looking for.
So, what else should I be looking for?
If all else fails, I'll get a G-Code, but I'd prefer the lock-on-reholstering of the thumbdrive (as opposed to a hood) if I can get it.
I have the same problem with my 5.11 Thumbdrive not retaining a 226 Elite Dark. I brought the holster to a gun shop and tried it on a few different 226's and 220's, both standard and elite. It didn't retain any of them, so I'm going to try replacing it before giving up on the holster altogether.
Sounds like a 5.11 holster issue and not a gun issue.
I have a
Safariland ALS for a P226R, specifically the 6378 belt/paddle holster. It uses a thumb release and should fit your criteria.

+1. The Safariland 6377/6378 is the best kept secret in the holster world. IMHO, it is vastly superior to the BH Serpa.
I found the same thing with the BlackHawk holster. My 226 elite would not lock in.

Same with this one. I just returned mine for a refund.
To be fair, they were very good with customer service.
Either there's some QC issues at play with the Thumbdrives or they never really fit to begin with. I know the holster was originally designed for Glocks, which have polymer trigger guards. Sigs have checkered steel trigger guards, and it seemed to be filing the plastic retention lever as the gun was inserted. Even if it did work, it's only a matter of time before that button gets filed down to the point where it wouldn't work.
I had been looking at the Safariland ALS holsters, but there's so many I wasn't sure which model number I actually needed. I guess I'll go with them.
For what it's worth I checked with Safariland last year and they said they did not make one that fit the 226 Elite.I ended up getting a Blackhawk Serpa.I also have a Andrews Custom Leather IWB holster that I like a lot.Sam is local to me so I can go to his shop when I need something.Great guy and great work.

I ordered a 6377 from Midway, it hasn't shipped yet but when it does I'll give a report on it.
6378 user here too. Word of advice, the 6378 comes as a paddle holster, but has the belt plate and screws in the box with it. If its otherwise the same as the 6377 (I don't know for sure as I can't do a side by side comparison) then that would give you more carry options.
When I first got it the lock was not reliable, it turned out that the holster hadn't expanded to fit my sig yet and the gun wasn't going far enough into the holster to latch. After storing the gun in the holster for a week or so and doing a lot of draw practice the holster loosened up and the lock now catches easily.

Safariland says you're supposed to hit it with some silicone spray when it's new to condition the suede inside.
As soon as Midway gets them back in stock, I'll grab a 6377. At least the price is very reasonable.
I have a safariland 6360 and it's superb for my 226 da sa in 40
