 M&P 9 Tactical

So I ran into a sale price on the M&P 9 tac. I cannot find these listed on the S&W web site or really much on the web about them at all.

From what I can tell it's a standard full size M&P with a threaded 5" barrel and night sights. I asked several times whether it came with the standard 4.25" barrel as well and was told "no".

Does anyone know anything about this model, whether it is current or discontinued?

Does it have "Spec Ops" inscribed on the slide?

They used to offer this model, but currently S&W does not.

It does not. I am starting to believe it was a regular full size with the threaded barrel. However at $529 with night sights it's probably a good deal.

I just bought an m&p 45 threaded barrel kit, and it came with both barrels.

Did some versions only come with a threaded barrel?

The Spec-Ops came with both barrels.

I don't know of a "Tactical" version.

That's what I was trying to figure out. I guess I should have asked to see the box etc. I will probably make another trip there in the next day or two to ask a lot more questions.

Does anyone know if the threaded barrel would be legal for USPSA?

I had heard of it before but I can't find a single reference to it anywhere. I'm very confused.

I just purchased a 9 with both barrels. The threaded barrel is US right hand threaded, and there no "spec ops" on the slide. No night sights, though.

I have never heard of one. The VTAC one and the Spec Ops is all I heard off.

See if you can look at the box and check out the lable. It should say it on there.

The Full Size M&P is not a 5" gun

It's a full size (4.25") gun with a 5" barrel that's threaded. Or at least that's what the sale tag said. This wasn't hand written, it was a printed ad of some type laminated and attached to the regular tag with a $600+ price.

Is it used? When you look at the box, get the 6 digit S&W code on the box. Thanks!

Not used, brand new and they have more than one.

What is the name of the store selling the pistol?

Ok so the SKU number is 209501. It isn't listed anywhere, but if you google "S&W 209501" there are ads for it. As it say, night sights and only the threaded barrel.

SO........

a) what do "factory" night sights usually go for? And who's are they?

b) At $529 would this be a better or worse buy than a reg M&P 9 for $449?

A: Trijicon Night Sights in a Novak style. The price runs about $100-125. I sold my used ones for $110 on the EE.
B: I say it is a good buy because you get night sights and a threaded barrel. You can pick up a standard barrel for a lot less than a threaded one.

DO IT!

Here's the deal: I sold my Glock 19 and am looking for a replacement. Due to other transactions, I have a large kitty but I am short of being able to get "both" as would be the recomendation in GD. A M&P 9c was pretty much going to happen and I found both FS and compacts for $449 at a local store. The one we are discussing obviously isn't "compact" but is cool as hell. I am also getting to the age where I'm starting to feel that night sights are a required option. If I hadn't found the Tac I would have already purchased one of the $449 9c's.

Decisions, decisions.....

I'm guessing this is why the one store has such a good deal on all 9's and 40's. S&W clearing out old stock.

1. The "new" trigger will not be out till summer and who knows what S&W will charge for the "upgrades".

2. Nothing wrong with the stock M&P's now, despite what the haters say.

3. If you want to upgrade the trigger, there is Apex.

4. That comes with a threaded barrel.

Get it.

I'd go for it.

Threaded barrel and night sights would cost more than the price difference.

Damn you all!! I was almost convinced that I "didn't need it" and that the 9c that I really wanted was probably the way to go.

Yes, the night sights alone make up the difference. Meh on the threaded barrel. I want one for the "Costa factor" but really it would probably just annoy me in a holster. The other problem is I explained to the older boy that there's a M&P 22 that's the same size......I can't afford both.

You could aways sell the barrel or trade it for a regular barrel.

You gonna put a beard on your M&P then?

Definitely shirtless, bearded shooting.

Sadly I think I'm going standard M&P 9 and a 22. I can afford both of these at the same time.

Weird, I saw this thread yesterday and I ended up trading for one of these exact models (SKU 209501) yesterday afternoon. Mine does not say "tactical" anywhere on it, the box just says "M&P 9 9mm PISTL 5" barrel "

No standard barrel, just a 5" threaded barrel (1/2x28) with night sights and a thread protector as extras. I forgot how bad the reset and trigger feel after being used to my Apex FSS and RAM.

Can you post a picture of the thread protector it came with?
WSUXJer  [Member]

Sure. It was actually a hair short. It left a portion of the first thread exposed when I put it on. I swapped it with a different thread protector I had (factory one from my Marlin XT-22 RZ) and that one worked fine on the S&W barrel.

The one I have is like that, when screwed on all the way, the very tip of the threads are exposed.

I'll update it with a better TP, like a EGW one.

Was discussed briefly last year, special run, Jet Guns ended up with them. Picked one up for $525 myself.

Doesn't matter. It lost to a 9c.

Sadly it took a while of holding both the 9 and the 9c to decide. Honestly the grip on the 9 is about perfect. I hope I don't regret my decision.

I searched the S&W website (WHICH SUX, BTW) for that SKU and found nothing.

Please post more info.

Just google "S&W 209501". You will find a lot of out of stock pages for it. Just a M&P 9 with the threaded barrel and trijicon sights. No standard barrel.

Thanks.

You'd think they'd have something on S&W's website.

I hope they are reading this... They need to work on their web presence a bit.

S&W doesn't post all of their special builds on the website because they don't want everyone asking for something they do on a limited run.

Crappy cell phone pics:

Stock S&W thread protector:

Stock Marlin thread protector:

The S&W TP does work on my Marlin XT-22 RZ (no threads exposed) and matches the barrel thickness. The Marlin XT-22 RZ TP matches my M&P barrel. I just swapped them and called it good for now.
