I have a nearly mint 4043. It fits my hand prefectly. To me it is very comfortable to shoot. Problem is I absolutely hate the trigger.
Does anyone work on these?
Also, what is a realistic price on one of these? I also have about 1000 rounds that could go witb it.
I hate to get rid of it, but I havent shot it in several years. I'd like to own something I like to shoot.
There's one on GB right now that's listed for $475 with
no bids. Those things are heavy and there's not much of a market for that dao trigger. I have the old 4006 with the da/sa trigger and it's a really fun range gun and good shooter, but too damned heavy to carry comfortably. It'd be a great piece to pistol whip somebody with.
I think you could sell it for $350ish. You
may get $400 if you find the right buyer.
You can smooth out the trigger, it takes some knowledge on basically how to get the pistol back together. The actual smoothing out portion is fairly straight forward. I'm not a gunsmith so I'm not going to elaborate on how to do this, but yes it can be done. I personally hate all of the 4XXX, 5XXX, 3XXX series pistols that S&W made and was forced to carry one years ago as part of my job.
I happened to be in the area so I stopped into the local Gander Mountain. The guy there said they would give me $250 for it. In the case directly next to where we were standing was a used busted up 5906 for $499.
Their prices on guns and ammo are

I had one for off duty carry. It wasn't so bad since we carried the 4046 on duty which weighed much more.
We used to have problems with the feed ramps cracking. I sold mine for $250 to guy at work and he had something break
he told me it was almost impossible to get a replacement part from S&W. I think one of our armorers found the peice he needed.
If you keep it and it breaks there won't be much in parts out there. I'd take the money and walk away with a smile.
