Ok , i have a Kimber 1911 and I'm putting the ambi safety on it . I bought a Factory Kimber Ambi safety and it came with left side , right side and a pin ? My question is , what is the extra pin for ? I'm new to 1911
THe way Kimber Slide safeties work is that the thid pin has a flared end, which is supposed to slide into a slot molded (MIM) inside the opposite end of the safety...
The pic shows the extra pin and the slot on the inside of the safety lever.
Where as on other ambi safeties, like the Wilsons, have that extra leg on it that is held in place by the right grip panel.
Hope this clears things up a bit.
Some of them (I have two sets of them) have a replacement sear/disconnector pin that protrudes through the right side of the frame and the front/bottom of the right side safety fits into the slot of the pin to hold it in place.
I had not seen the kind where the pin is hidden by the right side safety, that's pretty neat.
