Update: Armordillo Concealment Review!
I ordered:
- 4.25" OWB 1911 Holster in "Tactical" 0.90 Kydex in plain Black
- Single Mag carrier for 1911 in black (Left side, rounds forward)
- Armordillo Concealment T-Shirt
The quoted lead times were 4-6 weeks for the Mag Carrier and 6-8 weeks for the Holster. My order was shipped on a Sunday, exactly 2 days before the 6 week mark quoted (beating the lead time for the holster). I received the order that Wednesday.
General Impression
The holster and mag carrier both appear sturdy with some flex, but no flimsiness. The belt loops are made of what appears to be the same thickness kydex and give slightly with a strong push, but nothing that would give me any apprehension towards putting these things through abuse. The holster looks well finished, with the edges rounded together and the nose of the holster held open .5-.75" to allow debris to fall through. The outlines of the firearm are clean and crisp. The mag carrier also shows clean, defined lines all the way around. There seems to be no tactile retention on the mag末just the friction of the two halves.
Fit:
The mags fit perfectly in the mag carrier, including a Wilson Combat 47D, a Kimber 8-rd, and a CMC Shooting Star. No wiggle room, and
again no retention to be notedmags are retained, but there's no tactile click (friction only). Mags fit both with and without rounds.
The holster fit the firearm very nicely, with good retention末however, I noted immediately that seating the firearm fully into the holster pushed the sweatguard out a half inch toward my body. It made the firearm sit wide on the hip, negating much concealment, and simply didn't seem right. I noticed that the indent created for the safety lever was too short by about a quarter to half inch. It should be noted that this was a 4" Kimber in a 4.25" Commander holster, however I had called prior and was assured that there would be compatibility. I called AC and spoke with Booth (CEO and Shoprat, according to the business cards included in the order) who told me that it the holster had been formed with a GI model (short safety), instead of the extended safety. He offered to have me ship it back and he would fix it for me, but I'm not a hard customer to please and decided to fix it myself. A bic lighter and 2 minutes later, the problem was fixed, saving both of us a headache. After that, the holster fits perfectly. I also noted that retention improved slightly from fixing this small issue. Where there were no complaints before, the thing feels completely locked in now.
On another (maybe petty) note, I ordered a t-shirt from AC. I like to advertise for companies when I order a product I like. The T-shirt featured logos on front and back, and also should have had graphics on the sleeves, but mine came without. In the same phone call I explained this problem to Booth who informed me they'd received a bad order of shirts, and he'd thought the website had been fixed. He offered to refund me the difference in price between the shirt with sleeve printing and the shirt without ($2.00), and also offered to send me one of the new shirts from the next batch they're having made at the moment. I kind of left the decision up to him as to whether to do one or the other or both. On the one hand, the offers to make this up to me were welcome; on the other hand, that he knew about this issue and shipped it anyway are a little disheartening.
At the end of the day, I like the holster and mag carrier, and the snafus were remedied by Booth and AC. I would order from them again, although I hope they work on some of their QC in the meantime.
Slight discoloration from using a bic lighter to fix safety area (doesn't bother me any):
Does anyone know a company that makes a good quality kydex OWB for a 4" 1911? I've checked around and most don't.
I e-mailed Personal Security yesterday because they offered a model for a 4.25" (Colt Commander) style but havent received a response yet. Maybe one of you guys can tell me, would this work for a 4" Kimber?
Any recommendations? I really don't want to have to go the Raven route and wait. Also, please don't turn this into a Raven v. the world thread. There are 50 other threads for that.

Update: I ordered a mag holder (lead time 4-6 weeks) and an OWB holster (6-8 weeks) on 10/4. On 11/13, exactly 2 days short of 6 weeks, my items have been shipped末looks like they beat their lead time. They should be here by Thursday or so, and I'll post a full review of Armordillo Concealment's products shortly thereafter.
Have you looked at CompTac? I recently picked up a 5" 1911 version of their C-Tac holsters which is for IWB and the quality is very good.
They have a large line up of OWB Kydex holsters as well.
G-Code and Bladetech both make them
Bladetech makes a nice kydex IWB... and actually I've got mine for sale. Send me a note if you're interested.

Have you checked out

I got a secondhand one cheap ($5). It's one of their full paddle holster OWBs, and I use it for my New Agent. It had been molded for a 5" Gov't model, but I took it out to the table saw and trimmed it down for my 3" pistol. I lightly sanded the cut edge, and it is good to go.
On the other hand, they do make holsters for 4.25" 1911s too.
Armordillo Concealment. If you don't see an exact match, email them, they have awesome CS.

Have a facebook with photos of holster we have sold.
PitBull made me one without any hesitation. Works great.
Appreciative of all the feedback. I checked with Personal Security and they said their 4.25" would work with a 4" Kimber末but then noticed that Armordillo had the same lead time and $10 less. I went with them, sent the order in on 10/2 to include an OWB and a mag holder. I'll post a big ol' review when it gets here.
Thanks again for the help guys

There seems to be no retention on the mag––not sure if that's a design flaw, although the website doesn't advertise any sort of retention for the mag carriers.

ckichinko,
First, I want to say thank you for taking the time to post a review about your rigs. As I said on the phone, thank you for bring the issue with the shirt to our attention because if you had not it would still be listed on our website the wrong way. If there is anything we can help you with in the future please feel free to let us know.
