Ran a search and didn't find anything. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these guns. Looked at one today for $499 and liked the way it handled and felt in my hand. I've read that 9mm 1911's are picky about what ammo they eat (like hollow points etc) but I want something I can shoot a box of shells for less than $20 and you just can't do that with .45. I also know Taurus has a hit and miss rep so that's why I'm asking here.

Don't know about Taurus', but you can get a Rock Island Armory (RIA), for $100 less from CenterfireSystems. I'm very impressed with mine so far.

Small ample size of 2 pistols, one a rental gun at a range I worked at, and one an employee's of the company.

Both ran great and were of MUCH higher quality than other lines Taurus sells.

The rental gun would out perform the pair of rental Kimbers (TLE 2 and some commander version) in accuracy (was just "easier" to shoot for most people), reliability, and finish.

Good buy for an into 1911 if you don't plan on changing much beside small stuff (grips, guide rod style, sights).

Are Rock Island really that good. I saw some at a gun show and they looked/felt cheap.

Here's a review from a 9mm Tactical owner over on 1911forum:

RIA 1911 Tactical review

I'm new to the 1911 world, and bought an RIA 1911 Tactical in 45ACP on the recommendation of a fellow Arfcommer. We actually ordered sequential sn's from Centerfire Systems- -both pistols shoot really well. I've had a total of 4 stoppages in 250 rounds, which are possibly mag related. He's had 1 stoppage from a bad reload. The parkerized finish is rather thick, and the grip panels aren't the best, but its a gun I'm going to compete with, and I don't care how it looks, as long as it shoots- -and it does that- -it puts rounds where the sights are lined up. Grips can be upgraded for $10. The Tactical model had the options I wanted. To me, its a good value. I'm planning on buying a RIA Tacticals in 9mm, and 38 Super as funds allow.
