I have a PPK/S issue, it will only fire double action, hammer will not lock back or fire single action.... had someone look at it and they told me I just needed a part replaced, what am i looking at, should i take it to my gunsmith, or should i send it back to S&W and have them work on it

Call S&W and explain the issue. Let them handle it.
Check the serial number against the recall list - could be the safety decocker is messing things up. If it's been serviced there will be a small punch hole under the trigger hammer.
Also - be very careful when chambering a round - mine slam fired - weeks later S&W did the recall.

yep, called S&W to ask about hte hammer issue, they told me mine was in the recall list and had not yet been serviced and to send it in for the recall and just to attack a note about the hammer.... guess they are just gonna take care of it... i sent it in via Gander mountain since it was only a $20 fee to ship it TOTAL (out and back)
They would have sent you a call tag, and had it shipped directly back to you in about 2 weeks.
I chambered a round in my living room, pointing down and away from my wife - pistol slam fired. She screamed, I thought the worst - my ears were ringing and my wife is screaming... my son comes into the room and punches me while yelling - assuming I've been negligent. I don't know... My wife seems okay, but I feel horrible. I don't know what happened - I'm in shock.
About 2-4 weeks later S&W issues the recall. They state the guns fire without pulling trigger, I am absolved - but I never chamber a round in the house again. What seemed to be an ND was a AD. Didn't matter much, I thought I shot my wife - my son was irate at me. This is why I try to catch these guns for people so it doesn't happen to you... because it did happen to me.
Always observe the rules of safe firearm handling.
I have the flattened bullet, it was right where I knew it would be when we pulled up the carpet to install hardwood flooring.
I remember that minute, like it was right now. Guns that go off unexpectedly are incredibly loud. Glad you're getting it fixed - because that gun is dangerous right now.
