Are the P99 being discontinued?
I have been calling around to at least half a dozen stores and no one carries this model. One shop owner even told me that with SW new M&P that they are discontinuing the Walther P99. Is this true?
No. As long as the P99 has been out there have been rumors that it is discontinued. Smith and Wesson shitcanning their SW99 didn't help any either. You just have to hunt for them, they are out there. The lack of stocking dealers and advertising for the Walthers never ceases to amaze me, but it's what we are stuck with.
Thanks. That is what I thought..
Had my dealer order mine. Found a bunch of them without issue. Smith and Wesson had some parts shortage issues with Walther for a while which didn't help as they were not in stock. Friend had a warranty claim for a walther p22 take a while because they just couldn't get the parts.
P99's are rare and bullshitting dealers are plentiful.
I don't know when this changed but I saw a new one in a store a few months ago that had the glock style trigger on it with the trigger safety. It seems to be a fairly new thing from the previous models I've seen at shows, in stores, and pics on line. If it was being discontinued I couldn't imagine putting the effort into changing the trigger.

That may have been either the Walther P99 DAO or an early version known as the "split trigger".
I think the new Baby Eagle is basically a p99 with a differentname on it.

At least they got the front rail right, but for fucks sakes enough with the baby eagle, baby baby eagle, itty bity eagle and the rest of that shit. Pick a different bird or something.
Hopefully it means cheap mags for us.

It looks like they bought up some of the older molds or something. The mag release on it is the older style where the newer p99's have a longer one.

Yep, Gen1 mag release that HK still uses vs the larger Gen2/3 and PPS style they moved to. The frame is made by Walther in Germany. The mags are Metgar (same as SW and Walther Original) with the black follower. There is a real pic rail instead of the proprietary one that Walther uses.
They call them "fast action" which is a bit odd because they are SA/DA. The "quick action" that walther has is glock-like (half cocked) DA. So, it doesn't make a ton of sense to call it fast action. Ready Action, Basic Action, Service Action, etc I could have understood but Fast is too close to Quick for them being completely different modes.
The de-cocker is there, etc. Personally, I like the new mag release, but it's preference. There are two main issues with the MR 99
1. It's not cheap. For $520 dealer and $585 street you may as well find a real P99.
2. It fucking says BABY EAGLE on it! The Jerico/Baby Eagle just said Desert Eagle and that was O.K., but come on! BABY? That's just a stupid idea.
For me to get one, it would have to be much cheaper than the Walther, and it would have to be possible to fill in the slide where it says BABY. If you could stealth one out it would be great because stupid choices aside, it is a P99.
Walther P99s are selling for around $600 on the net. I wonder if its the Euro crashing or a clearance for an updated model.

That's about what I paid for mine a couple years ago.

If they truly are Mecgar mags, I assume they would fit our P99's? If so, that is a great savings since they list them for $31.99.

I certainly hope so. The last I found any P99 9mm magazine was around $60 a pop, which is nuts. That hearkens back to the bad old days of AWB pricing.
I was originally hoping the "Fast Action" Baby Eagle was a Polish-built one, since they produce them under license for their military. I'd buy one just for that, but it seems MR and Walther have a relationship in Germany, so logical that that's where they come from. Ah well. Just give me a cheaper danged magazine!
great!!! it's named the FAP!!!

Just talked to the customer service guy at Mag Research and the mags are made by Mecgar!!!!
Matt
But according to their site - there is no part number for the p99. Does anyone have a heads up for a place that sells mags a lil cheaper than $60 per?
If you guys start spreading rumors about the mags working in our P99's they will raise the prices and then we wont be able to find them.....
The P99 is my most favorite pistol ever!
Lighter than shit and the AS trigger is the best trigger design.
