colt issues?
are there any issues out there with the colts ? Iam looking for something to ccw 3-4 " barrel. in a .45. also like the 9mm
Colt is producing some very well built 1911's currently. I've acquired three new Colts in the last year or so (S80 Commander, S80 Gov't, S70 Repro), and all are exceptional.
I suggest staying away from the 3" guns (some guys do like them though). The 4 1/4" (Commander) and full size Gov't guns are not as difficult to conceal as one might think. And...stick with .45 cal.
I've got a Defender in 9mm that has proven remarkably reliable. I've fed it a wide range of JHP to test because I didn't believe in the reliability of such a small package and the 1911 in 9mm, but mine has been great and never malfunctioned. I trust it completely. I had a New Agent in 45 that was reliable at first and then started giving me failures to feed with JHP after about 500 rounds. Not sure why, but it went back to the factory.
Biggest problem is finding one. Colt's production is pretty modest compared to the big players in the 1911 game.

It seems to be for sure. However, I have heard from a source I trust that Colt is making 2k units a month of various pistols. I won't pass this off as truth, but I did hear it from a source that is very close to Colt. If that's the case, where the hell are they all going?
I would find a Colt commander in .45 and end my search

I am sure there are guys that have had great experiences with the 3" but I'm not one of them nor do I want to stir that debate but since you asked I would CCW a commander size in.45 or full size 5" and not even consider a 3". That being said if I am carrying a 9MM its not going to be a single stack but that's just my preference.
my dealer has it least 3 one was the avenger ,another was one with nightsights ss.the other one was a 9mm

thanks I look to see what they are I thought they were 3" but maybe they were 4" . I do agree about having more rds in a 9mm.but it is a sweet looking pistol
The last ATF numbers I saw said that only Kimber was making more 1911 pistols than Colt was.
People don't understand this since they see other brands in the stores all the time.
You don't see Colt's because they usually don't even make it into the dealers display case.
Best way to get one is to have a good dealer order one from a big distributor that sells Colt. You may have to wait and pay more, but you get what you want.
Colt is making some of the best 1911 pistols since the 60's.

When I bought my Colt from Cabela's, it was still in the shipping side of the things. They had to get a manager to transfer it over to sales to sell it to me. Turns out, they had just gotten in the shipment the previous afternoon and hadn't even had time to check everything in yet. There were 5 Colt 1911s in that shipment, and I got the second to last one. The last one was a nickel'd Series 70 repo in .38 Super.
I purchased a Colt Commander XSE in .45 at the end of May this year, and it's one of the nicest 1911s I've ever shot. I bought it to use as my duty pistol, and it conceals very easily (I use a Comp-tac MTAC) on me versus a 5" Gov't.
Just bought a Wiley Clapp Commander. Colt is building great stuff now...wait it out and get a 4in IMO.
I got a new 100 year anniversary series 70 about a month ago.
The fit and finish are very good. The machining on the inside is excellent.
My only gripe is that there are some very sharp edges on the front of the slide. Gotta do something about that.
