I already have pistols in both calibers. In a perfect world, I'd get both. But budget will only allow for 1 P30. What caliber should I get?

The only answer I have is... Which caliber do you prefer???

I personally like the snap of the 9mm over the slight push of the 40 S&W. I seem to have slightly faster follow up with 9mm.

ETA..I been looking for a P30s in 9mm V3, SA/DA with night sights. Gonna grab one when I find one for the right price.

I'd go with the .40, but to each his own.

I run FMJ exclusively because I have concerns with HP that cannot be overcome, so the flat nose of the .40 offers a good combo of penetration and tissue damage.

9mm has it's benefits, some like the extra magazine capacity and the economics vs the .40

Go with 40 and get a 9mm conversion as well.

9mm. Better capacity. Cheaper to shoot. Same performance with modern JHP's. Honestly, 40 is the answer to a question no one asked. I'm glad I sold all my 40's for 9's.

Isn't that a problem using the .40 slide? I thought the 9mm slide has additional cuts to reduce weight vs the .40 slide.

Stick with 9mm. Cheap to shoot, can get lots of range time, greater capacity, and have a assortment of modern cartridges.

+1

And modern 9mm JHP cartridges are just as effective as .40 S&W.

I went with a P30 Variant 3 in 9mm and it has been fantastic. I have several pistols in 40 S&W and I really just enjoy shooting the 9mm more. For carry or home defense I use premium bullets.
