How often do you actually shoot your DE

I have been lusting after a 50 for years now. About 7 months ago someone was gracious enough to let me shoot theirs at the range. I was hoping that would cure my desires. However, I find myself wanting one even more. My only worry is that it will become a safe queen. How often does your DE go out with you?

I shoot mine as often as I can. I don't get to go to the range as much as I'd like, but I take it with me almost every time. Now that doesn't mean that I blow through oodles of ammo with it, but I shoot it as often as I can. Out of all of my guns, it's my favorite. No chance of mine becoming a safe queen.

But that's just me.

That makes sense. Sounds similar to my AK. It goes out to the range almost every time but until recently I was not in the possition to be blowing through high volumes of ammo. And I also noticed when I shot the DE that you become satisfied quickly! Glad to hear you like it as much as I think I will.

Not as much as I used too.

But, if I'm hog hunting it is with me and 5 full mags. Hunting about once every year, give or take some weeks.

Target shooting about 5 times a year. Ranges outside only.

Just blasting things around 3 to 6 times a year.

And my favorite of all is target shooting objects that float 20+ miles out in the Gulf, hopefully calm.

That about as often as I have been able to go shooting. I am for once a month, but generally end up going every other. The shooting spot is just to far away...

I hear ya....my closest outdoor large caliber rifle range is 43 miles. I like firing my 3 AR's, my Savage 7mm Rem Mag, my Mossberg ATR 30-06, my Romanian AK 47 w/ LT AK IronDot, my sweet Win 30-30, my SKS paratrooper, my Mossberg 500A 12 GA pistol grip, all my 22 LRs and 22 magnum rifles and pistols, my 45 auto 1911a1, my 44 SPL and my Desert Eagle 50. Thats mostly what I zero there, except for an indoor range that I practice handgun time with my collection of NAA magnums and a Black Widow - (range takes up to 44 SPL) about a mile away.

Honestly...I have to say that my DE gets more action than any other gun I have. I usually carry it as my CCW with a shoulder holster. I am hopefully getting some reloading equipment for Christmas so I can make it more cost effeciant to shoot. Jeff

I hate to even think I would fire the Gold Desert Eagle. If I had bought one of those__?__ karat models, I'm sure it would have become a virgin safe queen. But, back in the 90's I bought a black oxide Israeli made DE 50 that has worked great all these years.

BTW- What karat is it? And also is everything part-wise gold, including the barrell / bolt assembly?I have also carried my DE 50 with the vertical shoulder holster, and it perfectly fits my body, even with 4 extra mags on the other side for ballast....just kidding, but I do carry 4 extra mags with 1 in the weapon, so 5 mags total.

One thing I am considering is getting something like an Aimpoint T-1 and rigging it topside. Anyone here got any good ideas on how they did, or are planning on doing something like that with any MRD?

Mine is the Titanium Gold version. The other is 24K but it would be a safe queen. The TIGOLD finish is harder than the metal the gun is made out of according to the paper that came with it. Everything but the bolt is gold. The only thing i cant do is get the parts that are TIGOLD jewelled. They say the finish is too hard to jewel. It is holding up great and as i said before it goes everywhere with me. I highly recommend the finish. Jeff

oh and BTW...my friend asked me why i need to carry such a big gun, I calmly replied "What if I get mugged by gangster elephants on the way home?"

Which hoslter is that? It looks nice, is it comfotable?

My local store has a black oxide DE 50 new and a used 44 in chrome. I am thinking about possibly getting the used chrome one and adding the 50 barrel in the future. Thoughts? Also, if I get the black oxide, I also had the idea of getting it redone in OD.

It appears he has the Magnum Research vertical shoulder holster, as I also have one too. I also have a hip and left handed tactical thigh w/out scope.

I have always liked my black oxide finish as it stays more stealthy at night, unless the eagle starts barking.

Uncle Mikes has made a large amount of holsters with and without Codura, but I believe that's their signature material for Magnum Research.

I really like the Gold look to your Eagle. Being that its also Titanium, which is a type of very light, super strong, and very expensive alloy, I would guess that your sweet weapon will never let you down. I am just wondering how much Gold that is used percentage wise with the Titanium? I'm not sure, but they must have some kind of really unique process for packaging that Titanium/Gold Desert Eagle you have. It makes me wonder if they have a chemical, bake / bonding or plating process for snazzing that baby up. Back in the mid-90's they had much fewer choices and options, but I am very happy and satisfied with my Israeli made DE 50 weapon.

I always like my good military handguns and rifles to keep that dark or black stealthy look, but that is me, maybe many others also.

I had a chance about 5 years ago to buy a 24 kt DE 50, but I just could not do it once you looked at the damage that was scorched inside it, although with the bolt closed it appeared OK, still no way. What a waste for a display only 24 kt weapon.

Well, I am not sure if I want chrome or nickle finish. The chrome one just happens to be sitting there used and about 200 dollars less.

Thanks for the information on the holster. I know I want one, but I was thinking leather. The one is less expensive and if it works well, then it should work great.

I am satisfied with mine, Just got back from the range...it's dirty as hell but after I clean it it will be shining like new...even inside the bolt area! I will take pics after i clean it. The finish is excellent as the slide is totally covered in titanium and according to the manual has zero binding ability for the least amount of friction resistance possible. I might have to pick up the black chrome version one day.

there were a few times when i would put 100-200 rounds through the pipe of mine in a day. I only owned my DE for about a year (financial problems forced sale) but i probly got about 1K rounds down range with it. It was a great weapon, 100% reliable after i learned how to hold it right. I had a bad habit of bumping the slide stop with my thumb. Just be weary you have to clean em and clean em well to get the reliability out of em....

Well I shoot my DE TG-TS .50AE at least 10 to 15 times in a year.

THAT is a badass finish... did you buy it that way??? My 44mag is the matte black, which it seems most of my guns are....

I shoot my .50AE about once a week, but I shoot it a lot more when it gets closer to deer season.

Every range trip, .440 gets expensive tho so its mostly .44 for me unless I wanna scare the assclowns outta the indoor range.....

ETA: I reload but the .50 brass, and powder adds up and its a bitch to form the .440 cases (still costs ~.50c per bullet once all is said and done vs ~.32c for .44)

I shoot mine pretty much every time I go to the range, but mine is a Mk VII in .44 Mag. I got it used in a trade, more of a novelty/impulse thing but it has ended up being one of my favorite guns to shoot.

I am definitely glad I ended up with the .44 Mag; as stated above the reloading cost isn't even close to .50 AE. I can easily roll out some more economical rounds and afford to shoot it at least once a month if not more.

When I shoot it I typically don't shoot more than 100 rounds at a time though. Not only ammo cost, even with reloads, but also 100 full-house magnums do take their toll haha.

I shoot mine pretty regularly I guess. I carry it ccw in a Gould & Goodrich leather shoulder holster. That is one seriously nice carry rig.

The last two times I went to the range the DE went with me...the problem is the only locally available ammo for it is $43/box of 20

There's $86 pissed away...

I need to buy some dies for .50AE as well as some powder and bullets for it, but I'm seriously considering picking up a .357 barrel/bolt/mags, or at least a .44 barrel and mags....44 looks to be much cheaper to reload...

It's sat for years sometimes.

Sometimes I shoot it twice a week.

On avereage I'ld say close to once a month.

If you get a DE and take it to the range you'll shoot it. They are fun as hell to shoot ! I don't take mine to the range all the time because of the high price of ammo so I only shoot mine a few times a year. I usually take it when I have guests coming to shoot with me and it's always a big conversation piece

Yup, I'm planning a hog hunt with a friend for possibly over the summer. That's what I've been looking at getting one for, that or a G20 in 10mm.

Is 50 really necessary for a hog out of a handgun or would 44 or even 357 work fine?
Powerkicker  [Team Member]
12/12/2009 9:38:01 AM
The 44 is definitely fine. The 357 is more iffy but will work if you use the right load and shoot it well.
