DE scope rails out of spec?
I have a MK XIX Desert Eagle chambered in .44 Mag and I was going to mount a scope on the barrel. The MK XIX has a built in scope rail that appears should work with any set of Weaver base rings. Apparently not.
I tried a set of Leupold QD rings and a set of A.R.M.S. throw-lever rings. The ARMS rings would not fit, as the slot in the rail was not wide enough for the cross-bolt of the rings. The Leupold rings tighten down all the way on the rail, but are still loose.
So I bought the scope riser rail from MRI, which appears to be a cheaply made $100 piece of airsoft junk. This is a 2-piece contraption with cross screws that tighten to clamp the two halves together on top of the barrel. However, when tightened down, the riser rail is also too narrow for a standard set of rings. They are also loose fitting on the rail.
I ended up having to take the EoTech off of a rifle to put on here. Due to the way the EoTech clamps on, it is more tolerant of an out of spec rail.
So is this a common problem? Or is it a marketing ploy to get you to buy a set of the cheesy looking overpriced rings on MRI's website?
