NEED SOME KIMBER 1911 HELP!! Just got back from shooting the Kimber Classic Stainless thats 11 years old and likely never fired. It belonged to my friend who passed away 2 years ago. His cousin and lost the guide rod plug so its just been sitting in his safe. I bought it from the wife several weeks ago and ordered a bushing. Got it put back together (PIA with the way the plug and rod work). I went to the range and the gun failed to feed on second round. Took out the mag and the slide would not even move. Had to keep working with it to get it to close. Fired a couple of more rounds and same thing. Switched and put in new Wilson mag got off 3 shots and same thing. At times I thought it was not going to go back into battery it was so locked up. Don't have a clue whats going on. When I took it apart to clean I noticed the bottom of the barrel near the locking lugs and under the chamber was not finished but very rough. I lubed the rails, barrel etc before going shooting. I probably should have lubed the rough area and around the inside of frame but its such a pain to get that plug in I didn't until I cleaned it today. Any ideas?

Anybody know a helpful forum? I rarely get any replies in this handgun forum for anything.

You can try shooting it more. What does the round look like when it locks up? Is it an external extractor?

Can you post pics of the area you say is rough?

Does it have a full length guide rod? If so try using a standard bushing/plug.
If that doesn't work, check to make sure that the bbl link is in its proper place(don't think the pistol will cycle if incorrect).

I have a gold match and the area of the barrel above the barrel link is not polished - but it's no big deal as it does not bear on anything - and mine functions 100%.

The first suspect in your feeding problem is probably the extractor.

It doesn't seem to be hanging up on the round as I said the mag falls freely and so does the bullet. There no way to keep shooting it more as it hangs up almost every round. I did maybe get 3 in a row when I first put the Wilson mag in. Its like the slide is just stuck and won't move and nothing obvious is stopping it. It has a one piece guide rod which slided in and out of the end plug I just bought from Kimber.

What bushing?

If you mean you got a new barrel bushing, it has to be hand fit to the slide and barrel.

Wasn't a bushing. I mean't to say end plug for the guide rod which on this gun has a hole in it for the rod to slide through when slide is back etc.

Was the gun operable before the plug got lost?

The slide sticking at the end of it's travel can have dozens of possible causes...need more info. Does the gun cycle smoothly when the guide rod assy is out of the gun, IE does the bare slide cycle smoothly on the frame?
