How much would you give for a Smith 686 revolver in good condition but has been bead blasted?

Hey guys, like the title asks, there is a 686+ at my LGS that had rust issues and was bead blasted so now it looks stainless, but isn't really. The price in $550, which I think is a bit high, but I was thinking of making an offer around $500. It is in good condition, but that's abotu all I know. WHat do you guys thinks?

That seems awful high for a used .357". They sound kinda proud for a refinished old-technology pistol, even w/ the Obama tax.

Merry Christmaunakah!

If it is a 686 it is stainless. The 6 in Smith and Wesson means stainless. A 586 is the blued .357

It is a magnetic grade stainless, perhaps that is the reason for confusion. Most grades of magnetic stainless will rust in a high saline environment.

A good bead blast finish looks good on Smiths, if done like the 625-2. I have the 625, 686, and 617 in my gun bag today and will be at the range within 30 minutes.

I wouldn't go $500 unless the finish was well done, and the cylinder lockup was tight and index is perfect.

since it was bead blasted value is low! To me it is worth $250 just because of the bead blast!

The bead blast jobs generally look good IMHO, but they do show wear pretty quick from use and carry. Another problem I have seen with BB finish is that the metal has many fine pits/holding areas for moisture so rusting is more of a problem too. If it were me and you like the revolver offer 400 and see where it goes from there––no reason to overspend for something that you shouldn't need to.

Assuming no lock. I would knock off another $50 if its a newer model.

This ^ . Unless S&W did the refinish $300.00 would be the max I would pay .

$250-300, and that is shooter value with excellent mechanicals.

Refinished S&W revolvers are worth about half what an original would bring.
