Springfield uses a .220 cut for their grip safeties...Brownells has the Smith & Alexander ones available.Wilson will only fit wilsons or frames cut for the wilson cut.Ed Brown and others are .250 cut.
Look for a .220 beavertail ffor springfoeld 1911,it'll close that gap...

Your springer is a series 70.If its a standard Milspec-GI type design, none of the beavertails made should fit without frame modification. The wilson drop in beavertail is designed for Colt frames.Springers have slight different dimensions.....

Link for info, read .220 bevetail half way down in link, jig is avalable also...

I put an Ed Brown grip safety in mine. My local shop let me borrow a jig to get it close and I hand fitted the rest. The only way to get it perfect is to grab a jig, some files, and stones. Oh and some time.
The MilSpec is a gi framed gun so no beavertail safety will drop in unless you get the real generic ones that will have a hell of a gap. They work but won't look good. No matter what you will have to take a big section off the back just to get started.

Went with the 220 and turned out sweet and made a jig on my lathe
