Luger S/42 pistol prices

A while back my great uncle passed away and left me a Luger 9mm pistol. I put it in the safe and forgot about it until I moved last month. I figured I would see what I can get for it so I have been doing a bit of research. This Luger is marked S/42 with a G on the top. There are some stamp marks which I can only make out as German eagles and all the parts appear to be of the same number. The serial number is four digits. The pistol overall is in excellent shape (about 95%+) with the original finish. The controls appear to be a straw color which in my research seems to be a good thing. Prices range from $1100 to $5000 however I have no idea where mine falls. The closer to the $5K it is, the closer I will be to a new SCAR. 
I will throw up some pics in the next few days to see if I have a winner here. Are there any Luger fans out there???

This guy has a bunch of Mauser/Lugers and tends to advertise them a bit on the high side on the internet.
He deals for cash and can also appraise your pistol for a moderate fee.

This will sound rude, it isn't meant to be.
I have a 1965 Ford Mustang stashed in one of the outbuildings.
It appears to be all original and most of the paint is present, no rust.
It has an engine and a manual transmission and it starts and runs.
What do you think it's worth?
It is real hard to rough guess a firearms value with a short description and no picture, or better yet, pictures, to guide the appraisal.

I was planning on posting up some pics so yes, I do understand it is hard to give value on the limited info. I was just looking for the broad high / low estimate. No big deal.
I did take it to a dealer in the area who nearly fell out of his chair when he saw it. Offered me $2100.00 on the spot. I think that is a good start. He poured over several Luger books and after about an hour stood firm on his offer which told me it was worth more. Anyway. I will post a pic or two later.
