My friend is in the market for a handgun, he want a cz 75 and came across the cold war commemorative edition. Good price, I think its awesome and suggested he buy it. His father said guys on the intrawebnets were hating... Your opinion doesnt really matter if he gets it or not, I was just curious what yall think of it. As said, I think its sweet, and not over done as to raise the price, just something different.

no poll since im not a team member yet

IDK why the pic wont work

They are $50 cheaper than the standard 75b at Buds. I'd go for one, I remember those days.

Being billed as a Cold War edition it should have the old style round trigger guard. A buddy bought one while we were stationed in Germany for $199 in the late 80's. I don't think they were even available in the US at that time. I passed in getting one and regret it to this day.

Alright a gun that is perfect for pinkos.
yeah celebrate commies with a commemorative hammers, sickles and stars edition of the CZ-75.
Does it come with a lenin, stalin or U.S.S.R. t-shirt in red and yellow?

Besides Lenin and Stalin, It also comes with a picture of Obama, Nancy Pellosi and George Soros in the box...

ps: With exception of the hammer it does not look like the old CZ-75.

I think it's silly.

The Russians never used it.

Now if it were a cosmetic/retro look CZ-75, they would have me looking for a dealer. I hate the squared trigger, but over look that because the rest of the pistol is so good.

its window dressing. might as well color it pink with pink grips.

about the only thing good is the price.

I kind of like it. I mean, I know Russia never issued the CZ-75, but the price is fantastic and hey, Czechoslovakia was communist, and a commie = Russian, amirite?

I don't see anything that would keep me from buying one at the right price, but I would positively cover the red shit up.

It's ok. I, too, would rather have a round trigger guard and no firing pin block.

If they did a limited run of new-production short rails - with everything all proper, including original trigger shape, no FPB, and no half-cock notch - I would literally buy as many as I could afford. (And if they just did one that at least had the original-type trigger, frame, slide, and sights, I'd still buy at least one.)

Goofiest shit, ever. The Czechs hate(d) the effing Russians, and the arms designers did everything they could to upstage Soviet designs....hence the VZ-58 and the CZ-75.

Yeah, it does seem to be a very odd offering.

I mean, if you really wanted to have a "Cold War Commemorative", then one half should have been USSR and the other half USA. (Say, red star and russian markings on one side, and US flag and english markings on the other.)

I agree it looks cheesy. As a Cold War Comm it should have Warsaw Pact vs NATO. During the late eighties I was in Bad Tolz, Germany and brought home 8 CZ pistols. Would have been 10 but ATF won't allow me to import a CZ52 and 82 then. Here's what I have left.

Not my cup of tea, and I have a really bad itch for a CZ75 (SP01/Shadow) right now.

Concur. My maternal grandparents were from Slovenia, and my paternal grandfather's family originated in the Czech Republic. A good way to start a rucus at family gatherings was to talk about the Russians. Their family members back around the first quarter of the 20th century absolutely despised the Russians, and later on hated the Soviets.

The Czecks and the Yugoslavs always did their own thing when it came to firearms and ammo. IIRC, Czechoslovakia was one of the few Communist satellites that didn't bother copying the Makarov (they designed the CZ-82 for their own military), or the SKS, or making a variation of the AK-47; they held on to their VZ-58, which they believed (and they were right) was worth holding on to. The Czech Skoda Works was their equivalent of our Winchester Cartridge Co, and set the standards for Warsaw Pact small arms and munitions. CZ-Brno designed the BREN light machine gun, which was the Brit BAR, and some say the Brno VZ-24 was a better Mauser than the German-produced K98k.The Czechs were at the southern end of Germany's Ruhr, the heartland of Germany's manufacturing area, and IIRC the area they lived in was known as the Sudetenland, the first chunk of Czechoslovakia which the Nazi's annexed in the process which eventually started WW2.

No, the Germans taking Czechosolovakia in 1938 did not start WWII. That happened on Sep 1, 1939 when they invaded Poland. Then two weeks later the Russians invaded form the north. Wonder why the Brits and French never declared war on Russia when they honored their pact with Poland? My fathers family was from north of Warsaw and my mothers from the Solovakian side of Czechosolvakia.

I've got good news - they're doing just that. Look close at the picture, and it looks like it doesn't even have the pin for the FPB.

As to the Cold War edition: Meh, it's a CZ-75B with a red star painted on it. No thanks.
