Original CZ-75 pre 1980
With the old style frame. How hard is it to find one? What is the price range?
Short frame CZ's are quite rare and if I recall correctly sell for 4 times plus the price of a standard 75.

what is the "old style frame"
its like saying you want to buy a car with the old body style.
if you cant describe what you want, use google and add a picture to the post.
depending on what you want you could be looking at 300 or 1000+

Very hard. They are rare enough, that there just isn't a market out there to find as a reference point. I've never seen one for sale, but supposedly there was one on GB a while back for about $2k. Is that the going rate? Not necessarily. I wouldn't sell mine for that, I love it and shoot the heck out of it. But I wouldn't pay 2k to replace it either (I know, sounds odd, it's how people work)
If you want a really well made CZ, I suggest snagging a Pre-B and doing so now, since Wideners is dumping a bunch on the market for really cheap right now. There here really isn't THAT much difference between a short rail and a Pre-B. Here's some pictures and specifications:

Edit to add, for the above poster, he's referring to the pistol on the right. (Note the grips and hammer are updated to modern style, because I use mine for IDPA, etc.):

I have a short rail model that I purchased a few years ago. I paid around $600 for it, but it was re-parkerized and probably isn't "collector grade". Probably why I was able to get it for relatively cheap. Up until that point, I had been looking for one for maybe 3+ years and I had not seen one for sale up until that point.
I have not looked for a second one since, so I can't comment on how hard it is to find them currently.
On a positive note, CZ is going to make new production shortrails for their 75th anniversary:

If they make one in stainless, I'll buy a second one.
Holy shit that is awesome.

The part that makes me nervous is 2011 is almost half way over already. I hope this isn't vaporware.
I saw a beautifuly blued 75 at a pawn shop this past saturday and was gonna post about it. It had a four digit number with two xx's.
Seeing this post is making me anxious to buy it!
It doesn't have the round trigger-guard but comes with a stainless bbl and is about 95%.
Is 350 too much for it?
are there any advantages besides rarity?

Looks. That is about it. I still want one though.
I just wish the current 75B was available with the early style trigger guard.
So much better looking.

Me too.
Three Fifty is an excellent price for any CZ 9mm in good condtion these days.
some 10 years ago..
I started CZ forum.com with a 1985 Pre-B and 11 members hwo wanted to discuss the then unkown ( in USA) CZ brand pistol.
Now at 20,000 strong and growing each day..there is another budding forum that's destined for great things as well.
The older guns are still as viable for protection and collecting as any newer CZ made today.
A hearty Thanks to those of you who have been stalwart CZ fans and owners through the years.
I just picked this one up at a pawn shop two days ago. I traded two smaller pistols that I didn't really shoot that much for it. 1991 blued finish and my SP01 mags fit perfect. This thing looks like it was shot very little if any at all. CZ's are my new addiction.

Smoother DA trigger pulls. The DA pull of my short-rail (1978 vintage) rivals that of my worked-over S&W 586. I believe it is due to the lack of a half-cock notch on the originals.
Fit and finish of the originals is absolutely top-notch.
I paid $1150 for mine, as there is a small blemish on the right side of the frame. The guy I bought it from also sold a non-blemished one for nearer $2000.

Thanks for the forum.
The acceptance of the 75 grows every day in the US, but I still find it frustrating that so many shooters are completely ignorant of the design.
Imagine going to a pistol range and asking loudly: "What the heck is a 1911?!?! - Never heard of it!"

doesnt bother me. its the way the US is. its isolated still. then you have the Glock fan boys along with the JMB God followers. People live with blinders on everyday of their life, why should guns be any different.
to me i really dont care if others discover CZs or not. its just something else they will be ignorant of.
