Glock 22 or SIG P239
I have a chance to pick up either a Glock 22 (Gen3) or SIG P239 in .40 and in almost identical condition and price. I own a Glock 19 and like the way it shoots and am comfortable with it. I have never shot a .40 SIG but did get a chance to shoot a friends SIG 1911 Target and liked that as well even though a different caliber. I am also aware that the SIG being a DA/SA will take some getting used to. I have rented a Glock 23 when comparing it to the 19 and that felt good as well. At the time I opted for the lesser recoil of the 19 as my first handgun but now I want another caliber.
This would be mainly for range shooting. For those that have experience with either or both, what would you get and why? TIA!
I had a 239 and sold it, I felt it was too heavy for a small single stack pistol.
I'd go with the GLOCK.
I love my P239 in .40 because it soaks up the typical "snap" recoil that the caliber produces.
Well if the Sig is built like mine then you will love the accuracy along with the high quality fit an finish.
Less reloads with the Glock if range shooting. The sig is too heavy for its size.
What can you tell me about the barrel condition here:
Typical for a SIG with a couple hundred rounds through it.
I never cared for the 239 because it felt top heavy with a tiny grip and I always felt it was about to squirt out of my hand. I also don't care for .40 Glocks but I'd take the G22 over the G23.
I have the 239 .40 and its is a great gun. Yes it is a little heavy, but it is very accurate and fun to shoot. The grip can be a little small for some people. I put hogue rubber grips on mine and it fixed that for me. I'll admit I am not a fan of glocks, but you can't go wrong with either.
ETA : That is what my barrel looks like and I probably have a few thousand round through mine.
I have a G22 and a P239 in 40, so I am going to say get both.
The 22 is my nightstand gun. I often carry the Sig IWB.
Both are great guns
I have both and I love my 239 in .40. The recoil is not bad at all and the grip is small but with practice I find the gun very easy to shoot. I imagine you will shoot smaller groups with the Glock as it has a longer sight radius and more grip to hold on to.
Both are great guns, but for different roles. Depends on what you want it for.
It's been loved... tenderly.
The P239 is a great pistol. Sigs are capable of great accuracy and will do their part if you do yours. I've had a P239 in 9mm and .357 SIG and was impressed with their capabilities. Admittedly, I was more of a novice shooter at the time and was probably not all that adept at evaluating/scrutinizing the performance of individual firearms. Sigs reputation is dependable, though. Especially when you get into some of the older production guns from '80-90's.
If you want a range/house gun then get the
G23 G22.
If you're looking to carry then, by all means, the P239.
Having just picked up a
G23 G22, you'll be happy with either.

this or the MP
Appreciate everyone's feedback. I went with the P239 for a different flavor since I already have a Glock. Looking forward to shooting it!

Enjoy that P239! You going to carry it? What are you planning on using for a holster(s)?
Ditto on enjoying the P239. You will.
Sigs are great guns. I went from GLock to Sig and became a diehard Sig convert for a while owning a P226, P225, a couple of P239's and finally a P228 which I still have. I would have an entire Sig collection right now, but my current needs are filled by GLocks.
You may catch the "Sig-ness" soon if you're not careful. It's a beautiful, mad fever.
