I've got my friend's Ultra Carry (not Ultra Carry II) and the plastic MSH broke. Will any officer sized MSH fit? Also, the hammer will not stay cocked at the moment. Is that because the MSH is broken? I can cock the hammer and hold it in place with the safety up. As soon as I flip the safety down, the hammer falls to half-cock.
yeah thats unsafe dont shoot it .. if the ultra is an "officer sized frame" then yes, most will fit.
Something else is wrong, if the main spring housing is broken there should be no tension pushing on the hammer strut therefore the hammer should not "fall" at all.
there is a spring in there that forces the strut up leveraging the hammer to spring forward. If the mainspring housing ia broken and not installed there should be no tension for the hammer to move. It should be loose
Your sear or disconnector may be the problem.
did you try doing your own "gunsmithing" by anychance?

The gun belongs to my friend. He said it broke when he moved. His brother put all of his guns in a bag to move them. When he opened it up, the plastic MSH on the Kimber cracked and part of it eventually broke off. I offered to fix it for him as I thought it would only need a MSH replacement.

This is the one I put in my New Agent:
http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=23737/Product/1911-AUTO-LIGHTWEIGHT-MAINSPRING-HOUSING , p/n
100-003-188WB
Officers Lightweight MS Housing, Checkered, Black
Desert Warrior <––––> New Agent, with VZ MSH
$1000.00 for a gun and they put a $0.37 MSH on it Gees... Colt's does the same thing. I ordered a OEM Colt MSH for my new Commander from Midway USA. It cost $40.00.
The Colt one is plastic, but it's sturdy, it works , and it does make for a lightweight part. The Kimber is crap. When you put the retaining pin in it. the spring tension starts to push on the pin and deforms the top of the housing abit.
I guess while a kimber may be a tack driver it's certainly not a nail driver! Yuk yuk yuk.
The issue with the hammer falling is probably related. the MS does keep the tension on the hammer but if the MSH has been removed the leaf spring is probably out of plce too.
