My ruger 22/45 with some TLC
This should probably go in the pic thread but I was so happy with how it turned out.
So my 22/45 was like this
Did some duracoating, new adjustable sights and a stainless bolt stop and it came out like this. How did I do or should I of left it stock?
I would have left the Cocobolo grips alone, but overall... nice. Is the DuraCoat FDE?
I would also upgrade the stock trigger using a Volquartsen kit and lose the magazine disconnect.
When I first picked this gun up the magazine disconnect thing was really pissing me off. Since I have taken it down a few times the mags seem to be dropping free 3 out of 5 times. The paint is FDE and while I thought about leaving the grips stock the paint made them really come out.
I think it looks great
I have two of those. One with the rails and one without. I like the standard look better.

why dont you replace the bushing and get rid of the mag disconnect? drop free 100% of the time

It is just a plinker for my son. I may have to do that.
What adjustable sights are those? Does the front sight just unscrew? I am getting this model to run with a Sparrow suppressor and thinking of upgrading the sights. Thanks.
the finish is nice, the color at least from your camera shots look like it could accompany a stormtrooper....
The FDE looks light to me, but thats just me. Looks like you did a damn nice job. Enjoy!!

Answered my own question by buying the fixed sight model after handling both at a gunshow. FYI, the front sight does mount with a screw like adj sight models. Also FYI, the rail model does not have a dovetail cut into the receiver or a screw hole tapped for a front sight so if you contemplate wanting iron sights you need the fixed sight model. I got the fixed sight model and will be adding a toprail to play with a RDS from time to time, but I knew I wanted to use it for practicing iron sight shooting as well. Hope this helps answer any questions on this model.

I have a couple other Rugers, but not a threaded one (yet). I will be getting iron sights because 1) They're more accurate and 2) A $75 rear sight is cheaper than a $150 mini red dot.
I was mostly asking the part about which rear sight was used. I'm not particularly crazy about the Ruger factory adjustables and I was just seeing if there was a good recommendation for a starting point.
I liked it before you bubba'd it up.
Should have left it alone............

I like it. I have a couple of Mark II's. One of them for about 20 years. Just tonight I put a VQ trigger in my 22/45 MarkIII.. They are great fun, cheap, and easy to mod. I like what you did with it.
Not for me, but I'm glad you are happy with it.
Now redeem yourself by putting a nice silencer on the end

Forgot I posted this as I got an IM about this sighs. I ordered them straight from Ruger. I believe that they are the competition sights. The rear one was like $23 and the front was like $8. The paint does look a little light colored in the pic but is Tan. I like it so I guess that's all that matters, just wanted to share

I like it, I just would have painted the thread protector also. Nobody likes a stock gun anyway.

Great job, I really like it.

It looks decent but you really fubar'd a really nice set of wood grips. You should have got some cheap plastic grips to coat.
I would've left it alone.
Gratuitous pic of mine.
go to rimfirecentral and get sams bushing for like 10 bucks. disables the mag safety and mag shoot out

Me too..................
When did they start using threaded grip panels? I still have the old 1 piece grip. Would love a hogue wraparound, but the factory 22/45 upper was long replaced with a TS.
So the question was asked what sights were added. I bought a hiviz front sight to replace the " blocky " factory front sight( hiviz description didn't mention it sat almost1/4" higher). The problem is this sits so much higher than the original, I am going to be hitting way to low. What adjustable rear sight are you folks using to correct this? Thanks

I added a factory Ruger adjustable rear with the hiviz front. Ruger will tell you that the dovetail is different on the threaded barrel model but it is not. The old drifted out and the new one drifted in. The combo worked well at the range.
