Where can I find the bottom half of a Ruger .22 pistol?
Hi Guys,
I am hoping someone out there sells just he bottom half of a Mark I, II, III or 22/45. I don't currently own any of these and would really like to have the ARES RCU-22 carbine conversion-am I out of luck?
Have you tried calling Ruger?

I'm told they won't sell just the lower..
Just go find a beater Ruger 22. The lowers last forever.
They pop up from time to time on GunsAmerica.com or GunBroker.com, but they are quite often as, or more, expensive as just buying the whole pistol. Ruger won't sell them, (even though they are a non-serialized part) & no one I know of makes an aftermarket solution.
In this situation, I would buy the entire gun. They aren't that expensive.
Volquartsen makes aftermarket MkIII lowers, but they cost as much as the pistol itself.

Damn those look good...
You can find one attached to the least expensive used MKI/MKII/MKIII you can find, especially since you need a bolt as well for the RCU). Then sell off the upper if you want to recoup a few bucks (though I would just keep it around for when you want a pistol). Lowers seem to sell for more than I see complete guns and aren't available from Ruger direct (I don't know why they don't sell them separate, they could make a ton).
The RCU does look cool, I've considered getting one. Please post how yours works if you get one.
I wonder why no one makes the 22/45 lower.
seems simple enough. looks like 2 pieces of injection molded plastic bonded together.
can they nail you for some infringment if you just made a batch of them?
change some of the cutaways, would that be enough?

I have often wondered this myself....you could easily sell them for $100 a piece. Especially if they were CNC'd aluminum.
I can't figure out why TacSol or anybody else isn't making cheap alternatives. There seems to be quite a market for them...heck, I know I would buy a billet frame if I had a chance for my 22/45

I can't speak for TacSol, but I know a bit about machine work and product engineering..... The amount of work that goes into making a CNC'd ruger lower like Volquartsen makes ends up being more work by a considerable amount than what goes into an AR15 lower. Time is money when it comes to making metal chips out of chunks of billet...
Now, it would make sense for a company like TacSol to injection mold frames and either bolt or vibration weld them together but that would require an eye-watering amount of money to get started, several hundred thousand dollars, unless they went to China. My guess is that eventually TacSol will offer lowers in some fashion or other but only after they have established themselves as more than a niche manufacturer of Ruger pistols.
I guess the other question is can you buy the guts, and how much would it be.
I have only seen triggers and hammers, and that would set you back 50 bucks more at least.
so is it even cost effective? 100 bucks for the lower, another 50 to 100 bucks for parts to make it function.
then you have to buy an upper?
makes the used one for 200 look pretty good as a starter anyway.
but that still begs the question why doesn't ruger just sell them at 100 to 150 a pop complete.
Ruger also doesn't sell several of the internal parts either (hammer, sear, safety and disconnector IIRC). The aftermarket ones add considerable cost. I had a stripped frame at one point and it was going to cost something like $125 for the internal parts to complete it, and I already had some of the parts. Plus you also need a complete bolt which isn't super cheap either. I ended up selling my frame (still needing most of the parts) and bolt for around $125 on the EE and I probably could have gotten more.
There is one in the EE right now under Strictly Rimfire.
I bought my Ruger MK2 lower from Volquartsen for $90 two years ago with parts minus the accurizing kit parts and bolt I bought from Midway. I put it all together myself with the TacSol barrel I bought. A whole new custom assembled pistol with no extra parts. Volquartsen told me though that was the last MK2 frame they had left, so you may only get the lawyered up MK 3 from them

EE maybe....
This one is sold. However, where there is one there will be MORES!
