Revision Sawfly or Oakley M-Frame Ballistic 2.0
Which to choose?
Revision Sawfly or the Oakley M-Frame Ballistic 2.0.
Price isn't an issue. More interested in personal experience especially from those that have worn under ballistic helmet and tactical headsets.
Neither. ESS ICE, or Crossbow as a secondary.
I have issued Sawflys, and they weren't bad to wear either under helmet or headset, but there was something about the lense shape, or thickness, I dunno. I never liked wearing them. They were uncomfortable.
The M-Frames had good visibility, but the arms are huge. As is, they aren't comfortable to wear under a headset in my opinion, though on the plus side, you can remove the rubber, which does slim down the profile some.
I used ICE glasses on two deployments now and loved them. I was quite disappointed when ADO stopped carrying replacement lenses.
It is a matter of personnel choice, I personally cannot stand the issue ICE and I always had problems with their arms popping off.
The oakley M-frames 2.0 are the way to go. The frame is slimmer to be more comfortable with headsets and they are pretty solid.
Sawflys are probably the worst eyepro I have been issued. Pure shit. In one day of use they will come back scratched all to shit. I have destroyed 3-4 sets with literally almost no hard use.
Crossbows are nice, but I wouldn't pay money for them. I only wear them because I get them free. Oakleys I get issued and I have no problem buying.
[edit] I have a set of ICE I got from ADO and they are possibly the ugliest glasses I have ever worn. It aint a fashion show, but damn those glasses are ugly.
+1 to what daemon said about reasons for the M frames. The flat sides are perfect with headsets. He pretty much hit the nail on the head.
I would also recommend Oakley Flak Jackets. They are half jackets in look but with flat sides. If only the lenses were interchangeable.
SOS
You will not be happy with the Revision. The frames feel flimsy and too pliable. Additionally, the frames are thicker than they should be, resulting in pain when wearing an over the ear headset of any kind.
If I had to pay for the Revision, I would have be VERY disappointed.
Luckily, I got a bunch of pairs for free. Even then, I wouldn't suggest them.
If price isn't an option go for the Oakleys or the ESS. I can't recall the exact name of the ESS but they sell some that specifically built very slim to accommodate a headset.
- EDIT - Here's a link to the one's I was referring to : http://www.esseyepro.com/Suppressor_detail.html

I always preferred the 1.0 style over the 2.0 because because the Fang style arms are just more comfortable to me.
M Frame 2.0.
I've never had anything else last more than a couple weeks.
I will say outright that I have not used the other glasses, BUT that I love and completely endorse the m-frames. I used to have the original M-frames. I LOVED them. They looked badass and were great at keeping bad things out of my eyes. From brass, to sun, and water, the old m-frames were as good as I knew (and personally I thought they looked sexy as hell). Needless to say I lost those and have shed a tear everyday since.
I recently however came into ownership of some new ballistic M-frames..... WOW. Awesome product. Definitely an improvement in terms of functionality. The ballistic m-frames hug your head and keep shit out. I can ride my motorcycle without my eyes getting watery or dust etc infiltrating them. I love the old M-frames, but the wide offset arms would let things in and would get in the way under helmets etc (I'm talking bicycle/motorcycle helmets, maybe it is so with military/ballistic helmets but I am NOT .gov). These new ballistic frames hug in tight without pinching or compressing the sides of your head, yet have a close enough fit that I've yet to get dust/debris or wind into my eyes. Did I mention I love them? Down side to the new ballistics is that you will ultimately look like a tool, depending on when and where you are wearing them. You will look like a jock or someone playing GI-joe (granted, you might be GI-joes so in that case you're gtg), but for their functionality they are worth it. Not as sexy as the old m-frames (they ARE sexy in a "tacticool" way), but they function superbly.
M frames
they are flat so you can use them with headgear like headsets, helmets caps etc and they work well. i had the sawflys come off my face during training a few of times, those things suck.
oakley all the way, theyve saved my eyes a number of times.
