Im looking for a good low profile but decent capacity bladder pouch. Ive got one of the full size (3L i think) camelbak bladders right now in my assault pack but Id like to have it directly on my PC, a TT FL plate carrier medium. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Zach

Everyone told me a 3L carrier would hang below the bottom of your PC so I bought a 2L, specifically the PIG from SKD.

Here's the 3L version for you. I think it's quite low profile. Very well thought out and built like a tank

I'm also running the pig hydro and I like it since it doesn't hang below

I run our 2L on my PIG PC out here.

SOS, You think it will work decent if I drop in the 3L. At least I think its a three liter. Its the standard camalbak size.

A 3L hydration carrier will work but will push your carrier up when you sit down. It will be annoying. I went with the PIG Hydration Carrier and a Source 2L bladder from SKD.

Are you running the TT detachable pack? Does it have a spot for the bladder?

If you ask nicely, I'll get pictures of my 2L with a 3L reservoir in there tonight

I lucked into a brand new ATS or SO Tech Utility Pouch down at the surplus shop on S. Academy at Astrozon. Brand new was only $18. 4 rows of molle by 6 tall.

I added two blackened brass grommets to support the 1,5l bladder, and I made a dedicated H2O port by sewing on a section of loop velcro, reenforcing an X pattern, then cutting an X for the tube to clear.

I can add pop flare pouches to the sides, a 100 or 200rd SAW Pouch on the lower rows, an IFAK up top if need be. I was originally going to buy a Emdon Vehicle Hydration Carrier but seemed like Multicam was always backordered. And, for $18, I figured I'd spend more time making a custom hydration carrier from scratch.

That's sweet. I'm from the springs and I never knew there was a surplus shop over there. I'll have to check it out next time I'm down there.

Anyways,
PIG 2L carrier with a 3L reservoir completely filled

With this amount of water in the 3L carrier

This is how the carrier looks. I did have to squeeze all of the air out of it.

Conclusion: You should be fine with a partially filled 3L reservoir in a 2L carrier. Might now be perfect but if you're tight on the $25ish then it'll be cool

Sorry, he beat me to it. The 2L Hydro carrier doesn't leave any extra room except for small items like a VS-17 panel and GTA cards. I keep a bladder in my assault pack and one on my armor. Most of the time I just drink the water inside the MATV, but when we dismount I generally go through at least half of one bladder.

That is exactly what I'm working on getting now...PIG 2L Carrier and a Source 2L bladder from SKD but they are out of the bladders.

I was in the same predicament. I got the 2L PIG from SKD and picked up the Source 2L from Grey Group Training.

Well...That's what I'm going to have to do too. I would rather buy all my gear at SKD but they won't even give me a time frame when they might get the Source 2L bladder in. Oh well.
It's actually a little cheaper from Grey Group too.

Pardon my ignorance, but I have a question and suggestion.

Wouldn't it be much easier to simply don an early GI 3L bladder carrier? One could easily doff it when entering a vehicle, as opposed to having to scrunch up wearing a (semi) permanently attached bladder carrier. Such a carrier would carry a full 3L, probably not hang below the armor, and with the easily done, no-sew addition of a sternum strap, would be very practical, not to mention cheap.

Alternatively, an old-style 2QT USGI bladder could be carried using a shoulder strap, or even attached directly to one's PALS webbing. Pick up a TABS kit (drinking tube/cap/mouthpiece), and substitute a modern Camelbak hydrolink adaptor with valve and bite mouthpiece.

I've experimented with both these alternatives, and they both work. I understand you troops have more important things on your minds than dealing with this stuff, but I offer my suggestions as possible alternatives.

I have a 3L bladder in my assault pack which serves a purpose when its on me. If I can in a vehicle Ill just grab water bottles. But the reason I was asking was because, being a K9 Handler, I am required to have a shit ton of water available. Beyond this, while searching for things that go boom, I foresee searches where Ill be in armor, but where having an assault pack would be too intrusive or cumbersome. Hence the lo-pro question.
