The Akins Accelerator is back!
The Akins Accelerator bump-fire stock for the Ruger 10/22 is back. The stock that took the gun community by storm and caused the ruckus at the ATF has risen from the ashes! I had the chance to fire this stock at SHOT Show 2012 and it ran perfectly. No springs are present in this new version, it instead relies upon "isometric" mechanics where your non-shooting hand provides the spring power to make it work. This one is ATF approved and I will be testing it out over the next few days.
Look for a full review on my channel that will be posted shortly:
http://www.military-arms.com.
Great now the ATF will determine our hands to be MG's! I am looking forward to seeing how it works, but will wait 6 months before buying just in case. I remember the last time.

On the positive side, I could actually register my hands as deadly weapons.... If I pony up for an SOT.
at least they used an ugly stock and a rail that didnt fit
guessing they had to jump back on the backwagon following the "success" of the slidefire stocks.
any recourse for those that had the previous one and had to send in their spring?

The word is that Fostech, the current patent holder, is working on an exchange program of some sort to retrofit existing stocks out there to work without the spring.

The rail is a necessary part of the system. It slides on the stock which allows for the system to work with a vertical grip.
Ok but couldn't they have done this with a better looking stock?
I mean the back half of the stock looks ugly to me

if they needed a pistol grip why not go with something like the Arcangel Target thumbhole stock (looks like synthetic version of a T-rex stock)
I get you need a VFG but maybe you could use the Magpul AFG for a smoother looking rifle
Let us know how it works

It looks like the original stock so I'm thinking Fostech likely bought the original molds.
So that setup utilizes a Kidd single stage straight trigger?
I too have heard that there will be a retrofit for original Akins owners. The new stock was listed at roughly $650...a bit steep for me, but much less expensive than a Norrell's FA 10/22.
I spoke with Fostech today to get their comment on the retrofit.
Yes, they will retro fit original Akins Accelerator stocks. Here's the details.
The original Accelerators were sold in (3) configurations.
- full size polymer stock
- SBR sized polymer stock
- full sized wood stock
They can only retrofit the first type, the full sized polymer stock. The other two can't be retrofitted with the new hardware. If you have the one that can be retrofitted, Fostech will do it for $300 and pay shipping both ways. They're only charging you for the Kidd trigger which their cost is $300. They are eating the cost of the parts for the update and the labor costs.
Given Fostech had nothing to do with the original Accelerator, I think that's a pretty cool thing for them to do.

Fostech states on their website it's a two stage trigger. I've not installed my stock to my 10/22 yet so I haven't tried it out to confirm.
Would have been easier to install opposing rare earth magnets in place of the spring....Just sayin

Is the video ready yet?

Oh lord, I'm trying to figure out how that would get typed up in legal terms. Is the magnet the "sear" now or is it the magnetic field itself?
Rear end of that stock looks butt ugly, like something that French, or perhaps Russians, would design. I guess nobody has met an industrial designer.

Or even better yet, what terminology the atf would use to deny it.
I was just thinking about how nice it would be if companies started marketing bumpfire stocks for the 10/22.
I'll pass on that butt ugly thing.
Where is Ruger? They copied and improved on Kel-Tec and Walther/S&W... Based off of current and expected popularity. Here is their opportunity, a major company, to make a large sum of money. Market two models: Tactical synthetic, and Standard with wood stock. Plays both ends of the field. Make them look good, not ugly and futuristic. Sell them at a competitive price.
Why not??? They have turned themselves around since Bill kicked it, and are now producing standard capacity mags for the 10/22, mini-14/30, and are gaining ground.
Come on Ruger! How about it?

Because of necessary design requirements bumpfire stocks for .22s can't really look good.

Reminds me of a HiPoint carbine stock.
This one is ATF approved....
the old one was also ATF approved.......
Looking forward for an in-depth video review.
And, I HATE everything held together by screws... including gun stocks.

That's a damn good idea. Off to find some magnets............J/K
Unlike last time, I will wait a year before I buy one. If they are still legal, then I will get one.

Yeh, it's hideous, but think about it with the stock chopped, a pig nose added with a Magpul MOE on it. It'll look alright, I think. :)

Wonder where the review is.. Were there issues with the product?

My understanding is that the stock he sent in was A Not a 10/22 stock B Broken and did not function which it was ruled not a machine gun.
I do not however understand how the hell the new slidefire stocks are legal and the akins was not.
I really wish we could make some headway on these silly laws.

The SF requires some form of human motion for each and every shot whereas the original AA did not require any human motion after the initial shot was fired.
ETA - as for the silly laws - I wish we could do away with the ones that make these kinds of contraptions 'necessary'.

thus why only the spring in the AA had to be surrendered to the BATFE, not the whole stock.
$630 BUCKS?!?!?!??!?!
No thanks.
I'll buy 3 more 10-22's for that kind of money.

It comes with a $300 trigger group.
If it would work with a stock group, you could sell the Kidd pretty quickly..

I sure hope springs aren't considered MG's now.
THATS!!! COOL!!!!!

i think its cheaper to just buy a m&p 15 22 and put on a slide fire stock looks a hell of a lot better too.

I'd be willing to bet that a fine tuned VQ hammer and sear could be made to work.

...or the Grand Master set up that Ive already bought three of!

I dont need a new trigger pack... so "
NOW WITH MORE KIDD TRIGGER" is no selling point, or justification for that price... at least to me.
Now if they can work a deal with the archangel nomad in retrofitting their stock, I would shell out the cash for that one.

can you make your own stock or does it have to be an APPROVED design? if so (im new to 10/22's, dont even have one yet but im wanting one) couldnt you take whatever dress up kit you like and make your sort of slidefire type action?
