So I want to clean this older .22 rifle that I have got. It is the Savage Springfield 187r. I think it also is considered the Steven's 80. It is a semi aut0 .22. I do not know the age.
I have looked far and wide to find a guide to field strip this thing to clean it.
I have found what looks to be a diagram and I have studied it. It does not really tell me the procedure to take it apart though. I have taken the stock off to see if the steps would be evident. They are not.
I even looked at some other gun's procedures but they did not help. It seems that most of the other Steven's semi autos have what is like a bolt to unscrew in the back. This does not.

I am afraid that if I just start popping pins and pulling screws that I will never get this thing together again.

Does anybody know where a good guide to field strip this might be?

Thanks

If I remember right the rear of that action unscrews also and the bolt and striker pull out the back, been several years though!

These two diagrams might help you out some. I've had these guns apart many times, nothing hard or tricky about them. Just take your time the first time and lay out the parts in some logical manner so it's easy to remember what goes where.

Here's links to them so they are full size and aren't sized smaller.

Here they are but they will be smaller.

Thanks for the info all.

Hey OlCrow..do you pop the locking washer off the safety to remove it? That seems to be the way this needs to break down but I wanted to make sure.

Thanks
