I travel for work stoped by a pawn store, saw a 1917 enfield, for 169.99 without magazine. I have no technical knowledge with this particular rifle. I was unable to get bolt out to check the crown. But was able to check rifling from muzzle end it looks good , rifling looks deep still. It was dirty in there. Bolt and everything moved and function correctly. Condition looks good, no rust or corrosion. There's a lot of stamping on the reciever that I'm not sure what they mean. The guy said the price is not fixed and with cash he can go lower. Should I go for it? What price? Was unable to get picture.

What else should I know about this rifle before considering taking it home?

Hard to say without seeing it. But I'd say assuming its complete and in average condition a 1917 Enfield is a $250-$300 gun.

Try $150 and see what they say. Either way it's a deal.

I'd agree. Unless it's just a piece of junk, $170 is a good price, but it's a pawn shop. Offer $150.

Magazine is $30-40 to replace.

Sounds like a great deal. Snag it.

I didn't think a 1917 had a removable mag like a SMLE or MK4???

It's not an M1917, it's an SMLE dated 1917.
