With my modern weapons I will unchamber the round, and also detach the magazine with semi-autos.
I just got a T/C Omega and while I've shot a bunch at the range I haven't fielded it during a hunting season.
I use a rope to raise my rifle/shotgun into and out of my stand.
Is it safe to only remove the primer and then raise my muzzleloader into my stand with the powder pellets and bullet in the barrel?
It seems dangerous to do this, but then again it seems strange to shoot your rifle before climbing into the stand and then again before climbing down.
Take the 209 primer off, attach pull rope and climb up, then pull it up and reprime. As long as there's no source of ignition, you won't have a problem.

That is what I do.
Here in va a muzzle loader is considered unloaded if the primer, cap, or priming charge are removed.
I agree to deprime and climb, and do this on occaision. On my primary climber, I have attached rifle holders, like the ones that go on the handlebars of an ATV to the front rail, I just put the rifle in the rack and climb with it, then prime at the top of the tree. It gives you a handy place to secure the rifle during long sits.

I like that idea. But don't you put your ass on that bar to climb? Or is it one of those stands like Lone Wolf where you climb with your back to the tree?

It should be OK to do that with a modern muzzleloader or a caplock, but I have seen a flintlock go off without a priming charge. The sparks from the flint was enough to set off the main charge. That's why mine wears a lock stall.

Have had that happen myself, at the range. Splintered my flint trying to make a shot, so I blew out the priming charge and installed a new flint. Pulled the trigger on the new flint with the gun aimed downrange, and much to my surprise, the gun went off without so much as a grain of powder in the pan. Be careful out there.
