LDI DBAL D2 - At the Impact Zone
I had the opportunity to evaluate the performance of the new, pre-production LDI DBAL D2 Civilian Legal Class 1 IR laser. LDI sent it to me for a NV Shoot that was rained out last week.
I took it to the Impact Zone and observed it on the 100 yard and 200 yard known distance ranges and around the property. The DBAL D2 has a LED illuminator in addition to its Class 1 aiming laser. This illuminator is the equal of the onboard illuminators that the PEQ-2a and PEQ-15 (both the insight and DBAL I2 units) have built into the units. The illuminator can be focused in to a narrow IR beam for illuminating targets at 200-300 yards (this was the limit of the range) and focused out to a flood to illuminate a wide area without blooming your PVS-14.
The eyesafe aiming laser is easily and clearly visible at 200 yards on most any surface. This equals the usable range of the PEQ-2 and 15. While the DBAL D2 doesn't have the high output laser function of the PEQ-2a and the PEQ-15s, this function is not something that is overly useful in the civilian, hog hunting world.
The DBAL D2 is perfect for most civilian, LEO and military uses. The aiming laser is powerful enough to be usefull out to 200 yards and the illuminator is powerful enough to light the darkest corners and illuminate the area under the tree canopy as you are moving around the lease at night looking for pigs
I'll post the next video when I get it put together.
Excellent demo

Really shines some light on the subject

Thanks for putting her up Sir.

Could have shined even more brighter (the beam that is) IF some cigar smoke could have been introduced!
Nice vid Sean.
Vic
I couldn't bring myself to trudge the the mud & water. How was the shoot?
EDIT - NM, I thought that vid was from last weekend.
Great vid....clearly demonstrates that Class 1 is GTG at 100y.
Will the ITAL IR laser reach 200 easy as well?

It should, as they are very similar internally
. As ststed and correct above the Newest LDI .7mW Ir pointers OTAL/ITAL and such will do the same thing as the D2 pointer will as stated above its the same DIODE. .
If the OP does not Mind ? (LET ME know and I will pull this)here is a Pick of the .7mw D2 pointer at 588 yards these things are strong and do not drain battery like the first LDI class 1 lasers all that is in the past.

Its looking more and more like the < 1mW power is sufficient for 200 yards, and that's as far as I would want to use one for hunting, given the beam divergence into a much larger MOA coverage.
But for the brightness, I'd say LDI has really hit a home run with the new crop of civi powered lasers.
Wild River Ranch and TNVC will definitely have a DBal D2 for demo at the Night defender shoot.

I can easily see mine at 400+. barely visible at 600+.

Indeed, will have MANY units there for that class mounted on guns for the "users".

The SPIR will be there too along with few other toys no one has seen yet from LDI and TNVC.

I have used an AN/PEQ 2 several times that an LEO friend has. Low on the PEQ 2 is .7mw just like these civi ones and it works great.
High is overkill and blooms bad at 100 yds in a rural environment. It's pretty much useless for hunting. I can definitely see where it would be useful for .mil though. Like putting rounds through a window at 300M in an semi-lit urban environment. For something like that, low doesnt work well at all.
Great video.

Not a problem. Great photo. That's what this thread is about
