You really need a red dot setup aimpoint, eotech & it needs to be NV compatible (nv settings) if your planning on weapon mounting your 14. Iron sights are useless with it. as always, best bet is helmet mounted with iR laser if money allowes..
What do you have other than the 14 its self, is there a mount to attach it to your rail? If you can mount it onto your rail with a QD, you should get a 3X magnifier for the 14 and an Eotech a Vortex Sparc or Aimpoint, all three are NV compatable IF they are labeled as such. You just spent a ton of money, don't go cheap on the rest of the kit. You can get a good skateboard helmet and a NIGHT VISION HELMET MOUNT KIT on Ebay. Now you can walk around and see things with your NV and in 60 seconds have it mounted on your rifle and be ready to shoot.
You cannot use iron sights with a PVS-14. As has been mentioned, you need something that will work at a distance and you either need to mount your monocular to your rifle or use a laser if you're wearing your monocular.
The optimum way to shoot is to have a PVS-14 and a dedicated riflescope and to flip the '14 out of the way and take the shot with the dedicated scope. Flip up scope mounts works well for this.

some people use their pvs 14 behind regular day scopes.
