Did something new today
Got to shoot a machine gun for the first time ever, and it was fucking AWESOME. Too bad I dont have $25000 laying around so I could grab one of the MP5s I got to shoot.

Fun isnt it? Wait until you shoot an Belt Fed

Fun? I had a shit eating grin on my face for about 3 hrs after. I can only imagine how fun a belt fed is
You can get an HK registered sear for something like $10K. Put in any host you like.
well the one i was shooting was 100% original HK, either way still wish i had that kinda cash to drop on a sear/ registered reciever.

Belt feds are fun until you have to carry one with a full combat load lol

Wow, that IS an incredible deal. If I had that kind of money I'd be all over it.

I think I
might actually waste the money on a lotto ticket for chance
I got to shoot a full auto Uzi one day. I walked around with a stupid grin for at least a week!
I guess I've been lucky. I have five friends who own miltiple MG's, four of them were buying them cheap before the 86 ban. I've been able to shoot them all extensively over the years. 1919, M16, AK47, Uzi, STEN, Mac 10, PPSH, MP5, MP5K, BREN, MG34, MG43, HK51, HK51B, AC556, CETME, and a lot more I'm sure I've forgotten.
I shot them so much that by the time my paperwork cleared for my Reising, I pretty much lost interest in them. I've owned my Reising for about four years now and have shot it 7 or 8 times. The paperwork is pending now. I sold it to one of my friends and put the cash into SBR's (which I use all the time) and a few other toys.
I've talked to several people who experienced something similar to me. Kind of buyer remorse by the time the paperwork clears. That's a lot of money to invest in something that, at least for me, rarely got used.
It is fun the first few times you shoot them though!

I think perhaps the buyer's remorse was because you bought a Reising
I refuse to buy one until I can at least afford an Uzi because I fear the same remorse, but I really want an MP5 and after using them I don't think I would ever feel remorse.
I've fired dual mount M2's on a few ocassions and have also fired a Mk. 38 Mod 0 (25mm M242 Chain Gun on a Mk 88 Mod 0 MG Mount) fun times out at sea.

No way. The Reising is a great gun. I wouldn't want to storm a beach with one, but mine ate up everything I stuffed the mags with from ball to my cast bullet reloads. Most of the people that crap on Reisings have never owned one.
My Reising came from out of state but since it's C&R, Dave the mailman dropped it off to me. That was the day before a private shoot out in E. MA. I loaded two mags of ball ammo and two mags of my cast bullet reloads and tested it. It ran 100%, so off to the shoot I went. 500 rounds of Winchester ball and 750+ of my cast bullet reloads later, not a single malfunction. I just soaked the bolt with Remoil every 5 mags or so.
Until my original firing pin broke, I never had a malfunction with it. A Christie titanium pin solved that issue.
My friend who is buying the Reising could easily afford a Thompson. Funny thing is, he likes the Reising better after spending time with them both.
It really wouldn't matter what MG I bought. MP5, STEN, Uzi, whatever, I just lost interest in full auto. I find my SBR's just as fun and a lot more practical. I see 90% of the people at the shoots just doing mag dump after mag dump, usually not even caring if they hit anything. They could fire blanks and get the same satisfaction. Those people will never lose interest in them. And I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it, but it's just not for me. I always enjoyed actually aiming and using controlled bursts and they never understood why I shot that way. Shooting like that, I can enjoy myself with my SBR's just as much.
Two of my friends have 1919's. They never, ever let off the trigger until that 250 round cloth belt is empty. I went to shoot one of them and the front sight was loose and hanging to the side. It had been like that from at least the day before, and the gun owner never noticed, even though he had been shooting it all day.
Like I said, if that's what they enjoy, I'm happy for them. I stopped going to the organized shoots. Shooting from a static line is boring. The few times I did shoot my Reising, I trained like I do with my semi-autos. Using cover, shooting and moving to the next cover, multiple targets, etc. Only one of my friends who owns full auto is interested in that. Everyone else wants to just stand at the 100 yard line, do mag dumps and kick up dirt all over the backstop.
If there were more people around here with MG's that were interested in actually training with them, I possibly would have considered keeping mine. But, as it is, I don't regret selling it at all.

I guess that makes sense. I do notice that a lot of people that own MGs just want to dump mags and take videos of it smoking. I'm not that kind of shooter, though. I want an MP5 because I think the ROF is just about perfect and I can fire them very accurately on F/A or burst. I think they're still a very effective weapon for close quarters work.

HK's seem to be the only MG's that are holding their value. Everything else has dropped in price. Not to what I would call reasonable, but still lower than they were 5 or 6 years ago.
I think being in the military ruins full autos. I've shot enough of them that after weighing the cost of ammo and the accuracy it's a no brainer that semi-autos are better. The fun factor is minimal at this point.
About the only F/A weapons I would consider are collectables. MG42, FG42, StG44.
mag-58/240 is the only MG I have any interest in. I know they are stupid expensive and its a challenge to own such things in Iowa.

Otherwise the military has ruined any interest I had harbored.
