AAC Brake v Blackout v Brakeout
So have a Blackout flashider on the wife's SCAR 16s and am needing to put a 51T something on my SCAR 17s.
Now the 17s has a PWS 30 cal brake now but am wondering if the AAC Brake or Brakeout miht be good to go.
Also, when used with a SDN6, is there any difference in a brake v flashider?

Absolutely. The brake will knock your fillings out if you use it on a short barrel, but it is extremely effective. It reduces recoil a lot without the can, and still very slightly reduces recoil with the can on. It also serves as a sacrificial blast baffle for the can. The flash hider will piiiiiiiiing like a tuning fork, and drives many people insane. The brakeout is a good compromise if you want to save $50, still protect the can, and not have the ping. I use a brake on my 10.5" AR-15 because I like having the two extra blast baffles, but on a longer barrel, I see nothing wrong with the brakeout. I refuse to use the flash hider.
Good video:
Comparison of AAC muzzle devices
I use the 51T brakes on a 16" and on a 12" SBR. There is a huge difference in reduced muzzle climb. They are loud but which brakes aren't? I did find a 30cal 51T brake on craigslist that I picked up for about half price. I dont even own anything 762 yet but Ill hang onto it until I do. Next on the list is a Scar 17.
The Brakeout is really loud and a very poor flash suppressor.
The brake on a 12.5" 5.56 rifle is rough even with double hearin pro. I run it for an extra baffle.

I guess its just personal preference. I only use Sonic Defenders and Ive never had any pain during or after a range session

To be fair the range I'm at has enclosed shooting booths.
I have a brakeout on my 11.5... it is great, and I don't show any noticeable wear on the baffles in my SDN6, even after some full auto. I have a couple of hundred rounds through it now, the last hundred or so were with an M16 lower.
I use to run a brake on my 7.5" m16 and the sound was obnoxiously awesome but the damn flash is what made me get rid of it. Anything short and the brake designs turn into flame throwers, gonna try the flash hider on it next but don't know how tame you can get a 7.5 to be. In single shot on my AA upper the brake made it feel like there was very little recoil. Like said before its good as a sacrificial baffle and definitely saved some wear and tear with my m4-2000. I think they did a comparison on db reduction with the various mounts and it was a negligible difference.

I use the break on my Scar 16 with a M4-2000 & 17 with a SDN-6. It is loud put it helps with the recoil on the 17 and directs some of the gas away from the first baffle. I use a Blackout on my AR with a M4-2000. For my 5.56 rifles the recoil seems about the same with the diferent mounts.

I certainly won't say it's an effective fh, but with higher end ammos with flash suppressant it doesn't do terribly. I'm satisfied with its recoil characteristics otherwise though.
eta: this is on my 14.5" middy.,,
dbltap
I had the brake on my 9.5in 5.56 AR with the idea of using it to protect my SDN6. Shooting it unsuppressed SUCKS. The comment about it knocking your fillings loose is right on the money. It actually turned off my older style EoTech.
I MIGHT put it back on when I finally get my can, but as of now it's in the parts bin.
I must be missing out then. I use the 51T brake on my 7.62x39 AR and it is not bad at all unsuppressed. It is better than the Blackout because it makes a noticable reduction in recoil, yet the side blast is not an annoyance.

My range has plywood walls between shooters, so a lot of side blast gets directed back into my face
I have a brake on my 10.3" but I never shoot unsuppressed.
The brakeout is horrible, I have had two. Its very loud, even on a 14.5" and does a poor job as a flash hider.
I only use FHs on my ARs now, the exception being my dedicated suppressed 10.3"
