I am thinking about buying a YHM Phantom suppressor in 5.56. It is the no frills thread on.

Any issues with these paticular suppressors? I cant really find anything negative about them.

I really dont care about having QD as I will probably just leave it on my AR.

I have the 762 SS QD....

It's a great can, I love YHM products. Great service and great warranty!

If you're getting a slap yo mama price, then ok, get it....If you're not...Then I'd save up and buy the 762 QD...in Ti if you got the money.

The 762 sounds about the same on a 556, and opens up the door to suppress pretty much ANY rifle you will EVER have.

QD is a matter of convenience...that I'm willing to pay for. If I'm switching it off between even 1 other gun, I want the QD.

Remember, this is a buy once cry once purchase. It will be yours till the day you die.

I'm def not questioning your choice of YHM, I'm just telling you to think long term when choosing which model!

Please elaborate. Do you guys have experience with YHM cans?

easy to say "that sucks" without providing reasons or comparable alternatives.

got one, not stainless, thread on, and works well. Heavier than hell, but sturdy.

Now I want to do a 1911, a mini uzi, and SBR the host for the phantom to get the weight down.

nothing but grins, a coupla buddies got them, same make, same type of trust, one is the jROTC ret Maj green beret from school, and he loves his.

I have the Stainless QD Phantom. It shares time between my 10.5" AR SBR and my SCAR 16S CQC SBR. I have no real complaints about it but if I had to pick one it's the weight, the thing is a brick.

My shooting buddy has a more expensive M42K on his SBR and I would be lying if I said I could hear a difference between his SBR/Can and mine. Then again I still wear ears with mine because even with the can on 5.56 SBRs are still not really hearing safe. A full size rifle with a 20" barrel shooting out in the open would be not as blistering but it too would not really be "technically" hearing safe either.

5.56 cans are loud. Yes, they take a big chunk of the boom down but the supersonic crack of the round in flight is still very, very noticeable. And on an SBR the noise level is even more elevated. I think my YHM Phantom is an excellent bargain... for what I paid for it it keeps par with the big expensive cans. Now, I will not argue that the more expensive cans are generally lighter weight and if you are going to be humping your rifle all over the countryside or shooting on your feet for hours then saving your cash for a lighter can would be a good decision. But if you don't mind the extra weight the YHM can't be beat for the price point.

But if you want no-hearing-protection shoot-in-my-backyard fun get a good .22 can first, like a Sparrow. I own two cans, my Phantom and a Gemtech Alpine. I use the Alpine on my 22/45 10 times more than my rifle can and love it twice as much... and I bought the rifle can first if that tells you anything. I have paperwork in on a Multimount though so... cans become a slippery slope.

Phantoms are great. Some are lighter but the sound is the same. If the YHM can fits your budget, go for it. Get the QD.

I have 4 YHM cans: .22, .45, .223, and .308. They are not the lightest, coolest, or the sexiest but they do the job. The only one that i semi regret buying is the .22 - Silencerco would have been a better choice.

I don't see a problem with your logic. If a thread mount will do the job why not a YHM thread mount?

I went with thread on, I'm not at all concerned with an extra minute switching from one to another.

I have the SS 5.56 YHM Phantom. It's slightly heavy, but thats OK because I love stainless steel. I got it because I wanted to have a somewhat hearing safe AR-15 for inside my house. The SS Phantom brings the sound down to a tolerable level. Although people say there are quieter cans out there I'm not really interested because the money I saved can go towards other cans that are for fun, not just for home defense. The more expensive cans will only be slightly more quiet.

I really like stainless steel.

I wouldn't go with a screw on. Mainly just because if it happens to start unscrew while really hot, you're kinda SOL. I know the solution is just to crank it down really hard, but I would probably go with something that has a quality mount instead.

YMMV

I have one and use it for my 10.5 AR and my 10.5 SCAR. My friend has a AAC 1k series can on his SBR ACR. I can't tell the difference to be honest. My only complaint is weight. It will come loose sometimes when doing a mag dump or two but that's what the hot gun glove is for. If I had to do it over again I would have gotten QD but I got this can for $300 so I don't right much care. I'll end up getting a decent 223 bolt gun and just throw it on there.
