 Making a correction to a form 4?

My dealer did my form 4 in normal handwriting which is definitely not the best. It's actually horrible.
I've gone over it pretty well - and everything can be read clearly - except the Serial #! SHIT! His "S" looks like a "5" and I'm scared BATF won't accept it.
Can I white it out - and make a correction, or put a "S" in parentheses underneath the "5" looking "S"?
The dealer is 3 hours away - and its nearly impossible for me to make it back to have the form re-written.

Print out an address label with the correct serial. Then place over said issue.

The DMV recognizes an S with a line through the center from top to bottom as an "S" for the purpose of vin number recognition through fax. You could just put a line through your S from top to bottom indicating the same thing?

I have a brother label maker - which would be very easy to do. I just want to confirm this will be acceptable with the BATF.

That's not a bad idea. Hopefully the BATF would recognize it as a "S" too.
I'd prefer placing a label over it if I can. I guess I'll call BATF Monday morning and ask.

It won't matter. The ATF already knows what serial number is on the can. They have the approved form 3 to see exactly what it is.

But if the Form 4 serial number does not match the Form 3 then they will kick it back to the dealer for correction.

You have a couple options

white out or someway change the serial number before sending it.

Or

Send it the way it is, if it gets kicked back, the dealer will make the correction then send it back in.
From what I have seen, corrections take an average of two weeks to get approved.
This means that if you sent it in, it would be approx 6 months until they get to your paperwork, discover the serial number, kick it back to the dealer, then another two weeks to approve the correction, then tax stamp in hand

The BATFE won't flat out deny or reject it, they will just ask the dealer for a correction
